This was the day I learned my father had passed 9/11 🕊️🤲🏼

We hadn’t seen each other in ten years. I think I grieved him many times while he was still alive, so I didn’t understand why it hit me so hard. But it did. I cried for hours, and then I went and did the show.

That’s the reality of this work. The bills don’t pause and the show must go on. It’s somewhat bittersweet.

Singing has always been the place I go to heal, even when the notes come out shaky. In that small, intimate moment in the park, I was reminded that we never truly know what the people around us are going through.

If my voice gave anyone a moment of relief that day, that’s a blessing. But honestly, I was the one who needed it the most.

Take care of yourselves, and be gentle with the people around you. 🤍

4am, forest of Bainem. A place I wasn’t allowed to step into growing up in Algiers during the civil war. Parks and forests were off limits. Coming back here, at that crazy hour, to shoot “Dabab” with a football team + of Algerian creatives is WILD! All independent at that!

I don’t think 8-year-old me could’ve pictured it.

Shoutout to @youcefbentis for understanding the song and executing the vision all the way through.

Also shoutout to @hsni.bkh for getting me a hoodie just so he can cut holes in it 🥲😂

We shall be diving a little deeper on the ‘Journey’ series with each post, see you at Part 2 🎬🖤 by @meryemsaci

One year today for ‘Journey’ the album and ‘Dabab’ the video directed by @youcefbentis ✨🎈

I’ll be celebrating all month, flooding your timeline with BTS and back stories of the process because I literally never talked about it and It deserves it. It’s never too late baby. 👀🎬

Shoutout to everyone that took the time to listen to the project and send me messages and feedback. Love y’all 🫶🏼 by @meryemsaci
