Last Saturday, HAYAT reminded us that life isn’t about reaching the light at the end of the tunnel.

It’s about how brightly we shine while walking through it—and the lives we illuminate when our paths cross.

August 29 was one of those crossings.

This is HAYAT. This is life.

We want to thank all the partners and collaborators that helped make Hayat a success, first and foremost our new home at @venue1537 and our sponsors @fadwamasala and @johnahmadrugs and our culinary partner @shashlikhouse.oc

At the Hayat Stage we had wonderful performances by @leilamilki , @solkarec , @bkaymusic and sound by our resident @djelray

This Saturday at @ritahouseon3rd, I’ll be joining @kashmiriteahouse to speak publicly for the first time about my fine art thesis and how it relates to inherited geometry from the country of my origins, Iran. At a moment when Iranians are enduring profound and unprecedented pain and suffering, this conversation feels especially urgent and personal.

These images are from our new production director at @mesghali.studio, the incredibly talented @honda__shahin of @shahinstudios. The print reads “Iran Zamin,” loosely translating to “The Land of Iran.” It was produced as a silkscreen and printed only once before, then donated to the Farhang Foundation’s annual gala art auction. I am hoping to unveil a second copy and bring it with me so it can be experienced up close during the talk.

Many years ago, I realized that I enjoy the process of making art more than the act of producing it, and that understanding changed my life. Leonardo da Vinci employed dozens of collaborators, many of them masters in their own right, working within a deeply collective environment.

I am, unapologetically, a modern Renaissance man. I was trained in classical art from childhood. I studied architecture formally at Cal Poly and Columbia. I am engaged in politics and hold appointed positions within city government. I am a professional graphic designer and illustrator with a background in digital work, branding, and creative strategy. I produce large-scale cultural events that bring these disciplines together. I continue to work in traditional Architecture with a capital A, supporting multi-million-dollar construction and renovation projects. My interests are not siloed, and I am not ashamed to say that an entire army of collaborators supports the work I’ve been able to accomplish.

This year marks a major shift for me and for those working alongside me to bring these ideas into the world. The foundations built across these different verticals are activating one by one. Nearly two decades of focused, disciplined work are beginning to bear fruit in meaningful ways.

As always, all praise is due to God. by @mesghali.studio

what does it say? write it in the comments.

the third and final installment in a series of three commissions, which took so long the client had a third child.

When it comes to artwork i dont seem to do it often enough, or fast enough, or publicize it as much as i should.

But as I like to think, doing something is better than nothing.

One of my mentors, Charly Palmer, told me i need to have 100 pieces in the chamber before I can put on a show.

At least I got this last commission out of the way. taken in Los Angeles, California by @mesghali.studio

ive had so many people reach out to me more and more often, saying they heard my name on @zeteonews or how excited they were to see me working with @mehdirhasan and @kiranxalvi.

i want to thank both of them for trusting my studio with Zeteo’s animation needs, and more importantly for always giving credit to creators and setting an example of a true team spirit.

Also happy to have helped the team connect with @mazjobrani for this great episode, a truly down to earth and kind hearted member of the Iranian community who ive also worked with in the past. by @mesghali.studio

@mesghali.studio

…

Bilal ibn Rabah, an Ethiopian of African heritage born into slavery in Mecca, was among the earliest to embrace Islam.

He endured brutal torture for his faith, refusing to renounce the oneness of God.

He was bought and freed by Abu Bakr, and became the first “muezzin” of Islam (one who sings the call to prayer), chosen by the Prophet for his unmatched devotion and exceptional voice.

After the Prophet’s passing, Bilal left Medina, returning only once to give the adhan, moving the city to tears.

Black excellence is universal across lands, faiths and cultures.
