I don’t know if anyone has thought to put celery with okra, you should, it works a treat. There’s the usual suspects, onion, garlic, tomato, bird’s eye chillies, parsley and cumin, even a cup of leftover chicken stock that needed using up. Some Lebanese flatbread to scoop up the tasty stew. A healthy start to the week. by @messy_table

Another great @clocmusicaltheatre production at St Kilda’s *other* theatre, The National. And @n_e_i_l_h, you’d be chuffed to know there was live bodhrán playing. taken in The National Theatre Melbourne by @messy_table

The tide was working against us today, once it turned in our favour, there were some absolutely thumping, line caught, King George whiting to be had. These are sitting on a full size baking tray, just under 1/2 a kilo each. Such a handsome fish. by @messy_table

Mexican style prawn roll. Made loaded guacamole with avocado, tomatoes, onion, pickled jalapeños, coriander, lime juice and seasoning. Gently poached some prawns in Saison scented water, chopped them coarsely, stirred into the guac and filled a lettuce lined roll with abandon. Topped with hot sauce, cos that’s what we do around here. by @messy_table

Dropped into Fuji Mart to top up my Japanese supplies. While searching for rice, these matcha flavoured Kit Kats said pick me… so I did. by @messy_table

I bought a batchelor’s handbag (takeaway chicken in a carry bag) the other day, because I’m not immune to quick and easy. Having completed its assignment the leftovers sat in the fridge, accusing me of neglect every time I opened the door. There was an open bag of corn tortillas sitting in the bread basket and walking past, a whisper softly carried - flautas! So easy, shred the chicken and place a line on the tortilla, sprinkle on a little grated cheese and roll up, there were some pickled jalapeños in there too for their pleasant bite. Then shallow fry them on all sides until well browned and plate. Dress them with a little salsa, here, homemade salsa verde, pico de gallo is also popular, along with anything else you fancy. Lunch done well. by @messy_table

Watching an old episode of @chefrickstein’s Spain, I fell for a recipe of fish cooked in cider. You know I’m a huge fan of mussels in cider, so I was kinda keen to recreate this, cider and seafoods are such good friends. Being in Spain, hake is the fish of choice, here, barramundi was an acceptable substitute. I did veer off course slightly, using asparagus instead of gambas (prawns) and added some mushrooms. Just perfect with a chilled glass of @daylesfordcider by @messy_table

Really looking forward to this. Grabbed a Greenham pure black, full blood, mb 8-9, barley fed, wagyu ribeye from @gmcbeanfamilybutcher that was on special. A few Maris Piper chips to garnish, that’s what I call a meal! by @messy_table

Pasta with scallops. What the local scallops lack in size is more than made up for with their intense sweetness. Added some njuda for a touch of spiciness, cucumber, which cooks very well, and snow peas for contrasting crunch, garlic, onion and rosemary to aromatise, plus a splash of white wine to tie everything together. by @messy_table

Asparagus has been of excellent quality so far this Spring. No need to get all cheffy, simply boiled or steamed then dressed with a little olive oil, lemon juice and a little less seasoning than Salt Bae, is perfection. Still, nothing wrong with asparagus risotto either, the offcuts simmered in the stock to release their essence, the sliced stalks and tips simmered in the same pot, then drained. Onion and garlic gently sautéed until soft, the rice toasted, then a dash of white wine, followed by ladle fulls of the asparagus stock until the rice is al dente, never soft. Some Parmesan and butter melted in, then the precooked asparagus to finish. You’ll be very pleased with yourself. by @messy_table
