Last week I was in Bar Harbor assisting @madelineartschool and it was truly an inspiring experience!

Most of my time was spent assisting the Urban Sketchers + Watercolor artists along the sea side, in parks + gardens, and driving around the curvy coastal roads to our next destination. My hospitality background proved helpful, and it was easy to want to care for this group of artists who poured their hearts out and made some of the loveliest paintings inspired by this magical place.

Spending this time with Shari Blaukopf and artists has me reflecting about some of my past work made on watercolor paper. For fun, I’m sharing a collage of some of my favorite pieces with you today – each painted with colors made from nature. Some are of me, some with Tim and Blue, and others made for some dear people in my life.

I try to capture the essence of each person when I design - using the smiling emoji ☺️ with rosy cheeks and soft, closed eyes for inspiration - I love the feeling of affection expressed with this look. I also enjoy drawing stitch marks to some part of the clothing – a little nod to my mending practice.

Nine of my favorites made over the years. I’m so, so looking forward to taking the inspiration from last week and looking ahead to the coming weeks - I’ve gathered my paper, brushes, and colors…it’s all about the color! so I’m at the ready for a new design when the opportunity presents itself.

So, a pretty cool opportunity has come my way, and I’d love to share it with you! 💙

This week, I’m on a little adventure in Maine with @madelineartschool assisting the school with this week’s workshops! Did you know MISA has 5 campus locations across the country? After Labor Day, during the month of September, students gather to be inspired, design, and make art in a truly inspirational place - Bar Harbor, and I’m fortunate to witness the creativity unfold and support MISA, the instructors, and students in any way that I can throughout the week. So cool!

I’m looking forward to sharing more – Quilting and Plein Air Painting are on the schedule. Last night we gathered at the Meet & Greet and today the magic begins with sunny skies to boot!

Of course, I’ve brought a couple of my own projects to work on if time permits. I began another Peace. Love. 💙 Mend. hat embroidery design last night – just look at my morning view! How can one not be inspired by this magical place?! Downeast, a place that I have not traveled to since my mid-twenties when @tmmcraith and I journeyed across the country for a couple of years exploring and being young adventurers – we call it Van Life today. It feels so, so good to return!

Well, I’m off to drive the Shari and her students to their first location soon! In a van. Just like old times…only this time I’m in the driver’s seat and Tim is holding down the fort with Blue back home.

This is our final day! Inspire. Design. Mend. @madelineartschool has truly been just so, so good!

This inspiring group of gals have poured their hearts into repairing and making their well-loved wardrobe into something extraordinary. My word, the creativity has not stopped flowing since day one!

Lake Superior, Madeline, and MISA have once again delivered and brought joy and magic to all! 🌊 Always.

We will enjoy one last day together and then say our farewells.

I began yesterday on Madeline Island with a ceremonial morning dip in Lake Superior. Nothing like it to get me ready for prep day at MISA!

I had the entire day to organize my classroom - we’ll be spending our time in the bright and sunny Milk House Studio. I love having the room filled with all things mending + design and was excited to display the new kits I’ve been working on this summer.

We had a lovely meet and greet last night. My word, I’m beyond stoked to spend three days with this group of menders! Thank you, Julie for bringing flowers from your garden - so gorgeous!

Finally, the day ended with a trip to town with some of the coolest gals I know. Of course, an evening swim in the Big Lake was icing on the cake. 🌊

I can’t believe how lucky I am to teach @madelineartschool - my heart is full and class hasn’t even started yet!

Here we go!

Inspire • Design • Mend at MISA is finally here! 🪡🧵🌊💙

It was a smooth ride north from our shed to Lake Superior, even with the holiday traffic, and the ferry ride on The Madeline to the Island did not disappoint - @madelineartschool is as lovely as ever!

First order of business after I arrived - a dip in the Big Lake, of course!

I am over the moon to be back and can’t wait to meet everyone tonight!

I knew yesterday was National Dog Day yet the hours slipped away without a post.

It’s seems like y’all must know by now that in our world every day is Dog Day as we are lucky enough to have one of the best by our sides.

Blue, our best buddy rescued from East Glacier Montana, has been a faithful friend and all around good boy in our lives for over a decade.

And just like that…it’s August!

My word, this summer is going by so quickly. As I I take some time to reflect, I’m smiling ear to ear - my heart is filled with love. 💙

I ended July on a high note and will be beginning August exactly the same, by teaching others to mend their beloved clothes using traditional techniques and a whole lot of creative spirit!

Today, I’m sharing a few pics from our wee gathering at Northwood Tech with the social committee, sorry that a few were not able to make it at the last minute, but this group of gals brought the fun to our Summer Camp Mending gathering!

The next day I received a couple of texts with photos: One of Kari Jo’s pile of jeans that she’ll be mending, and the other of Sarah’s repair that she made to a favorite pair of pants - she even included a mini woven repair, and just look at the rainbow of color she added to her mending guide!

I love it so, so much when I receive messages and pics sharing completed repairs.

I can’t wait to see their work walking the halls when I return to campus in the spring.

Next weekend, I’m back @theyarnery - I’m just the luckiest!
