This Saturday, TarraWarra Museum of Art presents an afternoon of live music and performance featuring three of Australia's most vital First Nations artists: @christianthompsonartist , @sumnconduit from Sumn Conduit and @tahl_palm. The program brings together practices rooted in language revitalisation, experimental music and sound art.

This event falls during National Reconciliation Week 2026, whose theme "All In" calls on all Australians to move from passive acknowledgement into genuine engagement. The week marks two defining moments in the nation's history: the 1967 referendum and the 1992 Mabo decision. Together, they represent a reminder that the work of reconciliation is ongoing, incomplete and collective.

Dr Christian Thompson AO is one of the most internationally recognised figures in contemporary Australian art. Bidjara/Irish/Chinese, Oxford-educated and the recipient of an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the visual arts, Thompson's work spans performance, video and sound, drawing on language, ritual and cultural memory to produce work of precision and emotional complexity. This afternoon presents a live survey of his vocal and sound works, an opportunity not often available to Australian audiences.

Sumn Conduit, Dharawal vocalist and composer Sonya Holowell with modular synthesist and composer Ben Carey, brings an expansive improvisational practice that has found its footing across some of Australia's most significant contemporary music and art platforms. Their latest album, Valve Is Released, was released in 2023 on New Weird Australia's New Editions imprint.

amby downs is the project of Yuwalaraay/Gamilaraay artist Tahlia Palmer, whose anti-colonial ambient and noise work explores place, history and dis/connection through immersive soundscapes built from environmental recordings, sparse instrumentation and harmonic drones. Her work has been released through Room40 and Longform Editions and presented across Australia and internationally.

This is what active engagement sounds like. Return bus is available!

This Friday at Arts House, Liquid Architecture invites curator and improviser Liam Keenan to perform a solo set alongside Nick Klein (BER) and Worlds Only & Junior Major.

Keenan's 2024 collaborative album with David Grubbs 'Your Music Encountered in a Dream' is an effortless masterpiece in hypnogogic flow with an alluring minimalist lyricism. Recorded by the pervasive indie sound engineer David Akerman and released on Lawrence English's esteemed Room40, the album has had high rotation at LA, and you probably would have heard it as interstitial music if you've been to LA events over the past year or two.

7pm, Friday 13 February
Arts House, North Melbourne
Tickets via Arts House & Liquid Architecture

Liam Keenan is a Gomeroi experimental guitarist based on Dharawal Country, Sydney. He works with exploratory and extended technique. 2024 saw the release, via Room40, of Keenan’s collaborative album with American experimentalist David Grubbs and in 2025, while in residence at Soft Centre, he created a new improvised language that deepened his explorations into the outer zones of how his instrument might be understood.

Worlds Only and Junior Major present Stable Confusion, smashing sound and live visuals into an electrifying experience. As Worlds Only performs, Junior Major generates real-time visuals through improvised AI-confounding code. Together, they craft unruly art that turns uncertainty into possibility.

Supported by Nick Klein and Liam Keenan:
Nick Klein is an artist working in sound and art and sometimes (begrudgingly) sound art with a lean towards the social potential in those modalities as they interact.

Liam Keenan performs guitar music deeply grounded with melodic phrases that unravel into improvisations shaped by lineage, listening and a quiet, but insistent, sense of place.

“Part Human, part machine confusion – this unique work playfully scrambles the signals. As Worlds Only performs, Junior Major generates real-time visuals through improvised AI-confounding code. Human inputs disrupt the machine’s attempts to interpret, classify, and predict what it sees and hears.”

Live A/V. Sound / code / perception.

Presented by Arts House and curated by Liquid Architecture.

Worlds Only & Junior Major present Stable Confusion alongside performances from Nick Klein (PL / Primitive Languages / Psychic Liberation) and Eora-based experimental guitarist Liam Keenan.

Gomeroi Power moments from the last weekend of November when I returned home to Tamworth to lead ‘Yaama Guduu’ (Greetings, Murray Cod). A program I’d been dreaming up for the community to celebrate the end of the Murray Cod breeding season with the making of a giant Murray Cod sculpture and an all-black live music lineup.
