I am SCREAMING with joy right now!! The lovely people of @hgtv have decided to interview little ol’ ME for one of their artists features!!!

I have been practically bursting at the seams for the past few months waiting for this to go live and now that it’s here, it’s even better than I expected!! We talk about me, the art, the house, the mexakitsch origin story and all 🥰

hello people of the ‘gram! it’s been a LONG time since I’ve reintroduced myself on here and even longer since I’ve put myself in front of the photographers lense! Well, here we go! My name is Leanne “Elrod” Rodriguez and I’m a full-time, multi-disciplinary mixed media artist and designer currently based out of the Sacramento-area (recent transplant from the Bay Area of 17 years , born and raised in Riverside CA). I currently focus on resin sculptures that resemble your grandmas favorite church potluck jello recipes, amongst other vintage food inspired themes. I’m absolutely obsessed with Mid Century food and design and it’s gotten to the point where contemporary design just straight out appalls me.
My pet peeves include spelling my art name incorrectly (it’s not “El Rod”), galleries who take 60% commission (or more!!) and people who oppose the working class movement. I create the work I do because I want to emphasize the importance of the presence of whimsy in one’s life. Not all art has to be political to be radical, the mere act of being an artist and supporting people who make the art is its own form of rebellion and activism and I’m here for it. I’m also here to preserve nostalgia, create fantasy by giving permanence to objects that would normally have such a short life span (jellos and desserts) and to be honest, I just want to make beautiful objects to put on your walls and shelves that will remind you that the power to create the world you want to live in, burns inside of you. Don’t let the dystopian nightmare dull your sparkle- be a Jello-loving weirdo and keep your inner child fed with art that moves you.
I have not written an artists statement in a very long time 😅 and I’m sure I left out so much info but I’m more than happy to answer any questions you might have! Feel free to ask away!!

NOSFERATUTTI FRUITY 🧛🏻‍♂️🍒 🖤
Straight from the crypt and fresh off the silver screen, these spooky little sundaes have risen from the dead to haunt your art collection!
Created in honor of the legendary 1922 silent film nightmare that started it all, these frightfully fruity fiends are a deliciously deranged tribute to the original Prince of Darkness.
Each one features a swirl of black n white film cream, a sprinkling of cursed blackberries, a dollop of dark matter whipped cream, a possessed cherry, a sprinkling of black sparkling sprinkles and one freshly severed vampire finger. All served up in a VERY hard to find smoky blue Anchor Hocking sundae glass, because even the undead have standards.
And for those who prefer their monsters bite-sized… MINI NOSFERATUTTI FRUITYS ARE HERE, TOO! 🖤
A little vintage horror, a little fruity foolishness, and a whole lotta spooky-kooky snacksidermy. These little suckers are dying to meet you.

Hey don’t mind me- I’m just over here scrounging up every bit of Halloween joy I can to help spread some spooky smiles and maybe a few giggles (cmon, Nosferatutti Fruity is my best name yet haha!) these didn’t get finished the way I wanted to before the official Feast of Frights release but I couldn’t allow this season to go by without completing them. And so here they are just in time for the best holiday of the year. by @mexakitsch

If you LIME it then you shoulda put a Jell-O ring on it!

My “Jade Ring Salad” Sculpture is making her debut at @resortorama this weekend! What’s Resort-O-Rama, you may ask? It’s a really fun and incredible mid-century modern weekend at the famous Flamingo Hotel in Santa Rosa and it’s the what’s what and who’s who of the scene. It’s a really cool convention that has artwork symposiums, caftan parties and a vintage market that is out of control. I’m super happy they asked me to show my artwork there for the 2nd time ✨☺️✨ theres still plenty of tickets and room to join in on the fun, go to their page to find out more information about the show. If you’re in the bay or Sacramento area, I highly recommend you try and check it out.
Now back to the jade ring salad! You know me always working on new collections, well this one is a very special one, indeed. In honor of my upcoming exchange of vowels with the love of my life, I worked on a batch of hanging sculptures that are all ring-shaped jell-o recipes from my very best vintage cookbooks. Made with love on my mind and gelatin in my heart 💚

SOMETHING SPOOKY IS STIRRING IN THE MEXAKITCHEN…..My favorite season has returned, and this year I’m serving Halloween with a little extra spooky-kooky glamour ✨ For my 2026 Halloween Collection, I’m mixing classic creepy confections with something new- Desserts inspired by my favorite old school movie monsters. Because apparently Dracula has a sweet tooth now. A sweet fang? A sugar fang. Moving along.

First on the frightful dessert cart….

BLOODY MARY BERRY SUNDAE- A scoop of cursed cranberry sherbet, dripping in sparkling strawberry blood syrup and crowned with one perfectly possessed black cherry

DRACULA’S DELIGHT- A tall glass of sparkling dark matter with a scoop of shadow black ice cream and a sword-pierced dollop of demonic whipped cream. But look closely… Dracula already got to this one. Two fang bites pierce the glass, bedazzled with ruby-red crystals, while tiny drops of strawberry “blood” drip down the inside. (Yes I know vampires don’t technically eat dessert…but if they did, this is what they’d order)

These two creatures of confection and plenty more spooky, kooky creations are crawling out of the Mexakitchen THIS SUNDAY! by @mexakitsch

After months of secretly working on what may be my most spectacular sculptural project yet, I can finally share the news: I’m part of the artist lineup for @meow__wolf Los Angeles! My SoCal heart is absolutely BEAMING with pride. 🥹💖 Being invited to create alongside some of LA’s most extraordinary artistic minds is truly a dream come true and bringing this project to life has been an entirely out of this world experience.
Now that the secret is out, I can finally start sharing more… but I’ll be keeping a few surprises under wraps until the new location opens in late Fall 2026. If you’ve never experienced Meow Wolf, prepare to step into another dimension. I made sure my work fit right in 🤗✨
