Got to pick my own sunflowers for the first time this past weekend! We went to the Sunflower Festival at Meadowbrooke Gourds on Sunday for their free flowers, and we completely filled the @homedepot Halloween bucket that we took along. 🌻

8 years ago I started on a path that has brought me so much creative joy. I started painting my first Catrina. Since then, I have begun and finished other paintings and drawings of Catrinas, photographed and met many amazing Catrinas and Catrines. Almost a year ago, I returned home in D.C. from a trip to find my prized @mexakitsch jello deviled egg clock in pieces on the floor. Edie had knocked it over (presumably by accident) and I was devastated.

I wrapped it in bubble wrap and decided to deal with it later. I moved to New York in October, unpacked it, and decided to deal with it later. When later finally came, I asked @mexakitsch if she could repair it for me, because I didn't trust myself and I felt horrible that a piece of her art had been broken by my carelessness (Edie is a saint 😇).

Not only did she do an impeccable and generous restoration job, but I also got a new certificate of authenticity. And most importantly, I finally get to enjoy this absolutely perfect clock, which fits perfectly in my New York kitchen 😮‍💨

Somehow we ended up in a table setting competition and won an award!! What an amazing show with such spectacular people and displays! It’s awesome what a group of talented people can come up and the Mint is such a beautiful location too❤️

Meet the judges: smiling, friendly, approachable… and secretly evaluating whether your salad fork is where it belongs.

This year, our judging panel had the delightfully difficult task of scoring extraordinary tables that ranged from elegant and historically inspired to wildly imaginative and completely unexpected. While we love creativity, innovation, and the occasional act of decorative rebellion, we’re also looking for thoughtful execution, strong storytelling, and a table that understands the rules before deciding whether to break them.

Think of it this way: we adore a creative risk-taker but deep down, we’re all searching for that magical combination of impeccable place setting, jaw-dropping presentation, and a concept so good we wish we’d thought of it ourselves.

To our judges: thank you for making the impossible look easy. To our competitors: thank you for making their job nearly impossible.

Make no mistake that when presented with the opportunity to set a table, our trusted leader will always rise to the occasion. We are so proud of her and everything she has done to make this event come to life. We can’t wait to watch this event and her ideas flourish.

“It’s 1976, and the hosts have just unveiled their latest entertaining obsession: a fondue party complete with flowing cocktails, groovy conversation, and a soundtrack of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass playing. Guests gather around the glowing orange fondue pot, dipping bread and vegetables while admiring the hostess’s famous deviled eggs displayed proudly beneath the warm amber glow of hanging lamps. Indiana glass goblets clink as friends share stories from recent road trips, swap recipes clipped from magazines and debate whether avocado green or harvest gold is the color of the decade. Framed by swaying bead curtains and handcrafted macramé, the evening feels effortlessly stylish, a celebration of friendship and the playful spirit of 1970s entertaining.”
