Through her practice, Saeed gave voice to the natural world and questioned the status quo of interspecies relationships that have become increasingly reinforced through the Anthropocene – with animals treated as subservient or inferior to humans and, often, relegated to mere tools to be exploited. With her sculptures, reliefs, drawings and videos, Saeed asked us to reconsider how we see animals, and how we live together with them and the planet more broadly. Filled not only with radical empathy and hope, but also humour, the works in Séance continue to advocate for an alternative – and possible – form of coexistence between humans and animals, whether now or in a future beyond Saeed’s lifetime or our own.

Meyer Riegger is delighted to present 𝙆𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙖𝙧𝙚, 𝙠𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙂𝙧𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣, an exhibition by Horst Antes (*1936) in our Karlsruhe gallery. Alongside the show at Meyer Riegger, the exhibition 𝙆𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙚 𝘼𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙨: 𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟓–𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟑 / 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟒–𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎 is taking place at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe, with former students paying tribute to the artist and professors birthday.

MEYER RIEGGER WOLFF — Opening September 2025

Meyer Riegger Wolff is a new joint gallery space established by @meyerriegger (Berlin, Karlsruhe, Basel) and @galeriejocelynwolff (Paris). It marks a shared, long-term commitment to the Asian contemporary art scene.

Meyer Riegger Wolff is located on the ground and basement floors of a building designed by architect Choi Wook, in the heart of Hannam-dong, Seoul. The exhibition space was conceived by his team at ONE O ONE Architects @oneoone.archive to accommodate a wide range of curatorial programs tailored to the gallery’s character.

What draws us to one another? What connects us? Where does connection emerge from? Those are the central questions raised in the current exhibition at the Kunsthalle Mainz. Friendship as a relationship emphasizes commonalities. It emphasizes kindred spirits, similarity, attraction, and affinity by connecting people through shared experience, common interests and mutual trust. For a long time, friendships were seen as an enrichment or a luxury, not as an essential part of our lives. Nowadays we are aware that friendships have a significant impact on our health and wellbeing. Grounded in these observations, the international group exhibition centers on the potential of friendship as a powerful societal movement.

The title 𝙊 𝙦𝙪𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙚 é 𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙤? is borrowed from a question posed by professor Josef Albers to the young Sheila Hicks during her studies at Yale University, in the United States. Upon finding the student experimenting with a makeshift loom, Albers asked, Was ist das, girl? (“What is that, girl?”). That became the starting point for an exploration that has accompanied the artist throughout her career. Beyond naming the exhibition, the question encapsulates a practice grounded in experimentation, curiosity about ways of making, and a refusal of strict definitions of her work.

Keine Paare, keine Gruppen, an exhibition by Horst Antes at Meyer Riegger, Karlsruhe, brings to together a group of paintings from 2009. Drawn from a broader series of approximately 40 works, the presentation features 18 black and white houses, all created in the same year. Each was made according to the same set of self-imposed rules that followed an almost ascetic strictness: one house, rendered in black with a white roof, its gable always on the right, and painted on a support of white-primed plywood.
