✨ Still soaking in this moment.

This weekend I traveled to Columbus for the 10th Annual NASW Social Work Month Gala. Last year M Frierson Therapy was honored as 2025 Agency of the Year for Ohio Region 3, and seeing the plaque still feels surreal.

This year’s NASW theme is Uplift. Defend. Transform.

For the event we were asked to complete the sentence "Social work is," and my team said: walking in integrity. After the last three stormy years of my life, that truth resonates deeply. Through it all, I’ve tried to keep showing up and walking in integrity in my work and life.

Our keynote speaker, @amazingteistreet reminded us that social workers plant seeds in the midst of storms. I’m beyond grateful that even in my storms, the work has been seen and honored. All praises to Jah for keeping my heart and mind sound during this time.

Big up to my village and my TEAM for holding me up with love and authenticity, and to my clients. Thank you for trusting me even when I’m human, messy, or not at my “best.” It’s an honor to walk beside you in this healing journey.

My family… Barbara & her kids! As so within, so without. Job well done, Lady. 🙌🏾

De’Asia L. Thompson, Founder of @risecounselingdayton , thank you for nominating me and being my sister and friend ... my FRIEND from day one. I love you, girl.

... 🪮 @ndvbmelaninkingbraids thank you cousin, for taking my vision, creating this fantasy look, and pushing me to walk in my POWER! Love you beyond. 💪🏾💫

Celebrating with my @mandelschool folks was a joy, thank you for the gift!

Thank you @nasw_ohio for supporting social workers and the communities we serve. Hannah, you rock!

Uplift. Defend. Transform. And always… walk in integrity.

Wednesday Well Check Recap | The Stories We Tell Ourselves

This week, we continued our July series, Understanding Summertime SAD, by exploring Chapter 3 of The Upward Spiral by Alex Korb, PhD: Always Noticing the Negative.

Together, we reflected on how the stories we repeat become the beliefs we carry, and how those beliefs can shape what we think we deserve.

Our brains are naturally wired to notice what feels threatening or uncertain. The hopeful news is that our brains are also capable of change. Through neuroplasticity, small, repeated acts of self-compassion, rest, connection, and mindful awareness can begin creating new pathways toward healing.

One question we explored together:

“Whose voice is that?”

Is it truly yours...or is it a story you’ve carried for years?

This week’s @_release_letgo Prompt #24 invited us to reflect:

“How can we honor the people, places, or experiences you’ve had to release and let go?”

Remember, honoring your past doesn’t mean living there. It means carrying the wisdom forward while allowing yourself permission to write a new chapter.

Healing doesn’t happen all at once.

Healing happens in the gaps.

We’ll see you next Wednesday as we continue building our own Upward Spiral together.

Summer of Reflection | Week 4 🌿
Release & Let Go Prompt #24

“How can you honor the people, places, or experiences you’ve had to release & let go?”

We’ve reached the final week of our Summer of Reflection journey.

As you spend time with Prompt #24, remember that honoring what you’ve released doesn’t mean returning to it. It can simply mean acknowledging its place in your story, appreciating what it taught you, and allowing yourself to move forward with compassion and gratitude.

There is no rush to finish. Spend this week with this prompt, then allow next week to simply let it all sink in. Catch up on your writing, revisit previous prompts, or return to the reflection that continues to speak to you. Healing isn’t measured by how quickly we move, it’s nurtured by our willingness to pause, reflect, and listen.

As we close this journey together, we’d love for you to join us for our Pizza & Pages celebration, an evening of community, conversation, and reflection.

Today’s Vibe & Sound session was exactly what was needed. 🤍✨

Together, we leaned into returning to ourselves and embracing the season we’re in as we navigate these summer months. Whether you’ve been carrying heavy energy in your heart or simply needed a moment to slow down, today’s sound bath was an invitation to pause, breathe, and receive.

Sylvia always knows just the right frequencies to guide us back to ourselves. Sometimes healing is found in the simplest moments, a quiet space, & the intentional power of sound.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We can’t wait to share this experience with you again.

✨ See you at the next Vibe & Sound session! Link in bio to reserve your spot.

POV: Your therapist is the youngest child... 🤭✨

Birth order isn’t a personality test, but it can be a fun lens for understanding ourselves.

As the youngest child, we’re often described as curious, creative, expressive, adaptable...and maybe just a little unconventional.

Honestly...that sounds about right. 😅

If you’ve worked with me, you know...

😂 We laugh.

🚶🏽 Sometimes we take a walk instead of sitting the whole session.

🧘🏽 We might stand, stretch, or move if that’s what your nervous system needs.

👗 I love fashion and self-expression because authenticity matters.

💃🏽 And yes...you’ll probably catch me dancing between clients.

Because while we’ll absolutely hold space for grief, trauma, anxiety, and life’s hardest moments...

I also believe healing deserves joy.

Healing isn’t only found in the hard conversations.

Sometimes it’s found in a laugh...

a walk...

a deep breath...

or simply giving yourself permission to be fully yourself.

Because healing happens in the gaps. 🤎

Now I’m curious...

What’s your birth order?

Do you think it fits your personality? 👀

Wednesday Well Check Recap | When Worry Becomes Our Constant Companion

Worry isn’t a sign that something is wrong with you.

Often, it’s your brain trying to protect you.

This week, we continued our July series on Summertime SAD by exploring how our brains organize memories, why certain experiences can trigger emotions from the past, and how unprocessed experiences can continue asking for our attention through worry, sleeplessness, or emotional overwhelm.

One of our biggest reminders this week:

Healing happens in the gaps.

Not just in the breakthrough moments, but in the quiet moments when we pause, breathe, reflect, and choose compassion over criticism.

🌿This Week’s @_release_letgo Prompt (#19):

“What would wholehearted self-compassion look like in your life? Describe a day lived from this place.”

We invite you to carry this question with you throughout the week.

See you at our next Wednesday Well Check.

Summer of Reflection | Week 3

Release & Let Go Prompt #19

“What would wholehearted self-compassion look like in your life? Describe a day lived from this place.”

We often extend kindness, patience, and understanding to everyone around us, but what would happen if we offered those same gifts to ourselves?

Imagine waking up without self-criticism. Moving through your day without the pressure to be perfect. Honoring your needs without guilt. Speaking to yourself with the same gentleness you would offer someone you deeply love.

This week, allow yourself to imagine a life rooted in self-compassion, not as something you have to earn but as something you already deserve.

Take a few quiet moments to journal. Notice what arises without judgment. Your answers may become the beginning of a new way of relating to yourself.

🌿 Continue your Summer of Reflection journey with us.

I am beyond proud of Candi for facilitating Surviving to Sovereign – Part 1. Watching you courageously share the experiences, lessons, and breakthroughs that have propelled your own healing journey was both inspiring and powerful.

Healing begins with the courage to be brave, to face what was, embrace what is, and believe in what’s possible. Your willingness to be vulnerable created a space where others could begin their own journey toward healing and wholeness.

Sis… This is only the beginning, and I look forward to see all that’s ahead for you and the countless lives you’ll continue to impact.

Deep gratitude to everyone who showed up, supported, encouraged, prayed, and poured into her. Your love helped make this moment possible.

Here’s to healing, transformation, and walking boldly in your sovereignty. So proud of you, Candi. Keep RYZING. 💜✨

🌿 Wednesday Well Check Recap | Understanding Summertime SAD: When Summer Doesn’t Feel Light 🌿

Summer doesn’t always feel light—and that’s okay.

This week, we began our July series by exploring Summertime Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) through the lens of neuroscience, mindfulness, and The Upward Spiral by Dr. Alex Korb.

Together, we reflected on how seasonal changes, disrupted routines, and the pressure to “make the most of summer” can quietly impact our mood, energy, and nervous system.

One reminder we hope stays with you this week:

✨ Healing happens in the gaps.

Not only in life’s big breakthroughs, but in the quiet moments when we pause, breathe, notice, and choose ourselves with compassion.

📝 This Week’s Release & Let Go Prompt #16:

“Imagine fully letting go of resistance to something in your life. How would your daily experience change?”

There is no destination called healed. Healing is a lifelong journey. Some days we move forward, some days we move backward, and every step is an opportunity to know ourselves more deeply.

Thank you to everyone who continues to make Wednesday Well Check a space for learning, reflection, and healing. 💚

We’ll see you next session. Link in bio.
