Celebrating 1 year since the release of my first album “deeper still” today!!!!

What a magical & special & sacred process writing these songs & sharing them with all of you has been! I’ve learned SO much and appreciate everyone who has listened and loved on this body of work for the past year!

What a gift it is to make music and share testimony about what it looks like to follow Jesus as a broken & silly lil human! What a gift that y’all care to let me! Squeezing these songs a lil extra today! Give it a listen if you haven’t yet!!! Means the 🌍!!

Most mornings this past week, the weather was terrible. We woke up at the crack of dawn, rushed up to Logan Pass, and hiked the Highline Trail.

The issue was… we couldn’t see anything.

We were walking along a giant cliff, with a rope you have to hold onto just in case you slip (that’s when you know you chose the crazy hike ), and on top of that… we couldn’t see a darn thing!

This part of Psalm 23 came to life in a new way for me on this hike:

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…”

When I looked up what “the valley of the shadow of death” means in this passage, I found the Hebrew word צַלְמָוֶת (tsalmavet), which can be understood as “deep darkness” or “thick darkness.”

Well… that’s exactly what we were experiencing on our hike.

The hike we thought would have the most magical views (which it ended up totally having!) was, at first, truly just thick darkness.

And I was reminded:

His Word says that’s where He leads us.

That the darkness will come.
The fog will be there.
The unknown will be near.
Sometimes, we won’t even be able to see 10 feet in front of us.

But…

“His rod and His staff, they comfort me.”

Not my ability to see.
Not my ability to understand.
Not my ability to know exactly where to take my next step.

But His strength.
His equipment.
His expertise.
His stability.
His rod.
His staff.

They comfort me.

Because He’s been here before.

He knows the way through the darkness… even when I can’t see it.

“good shepherd” (live from the garden sessions) is all about psalm 23. Here at glacier national park I got to live these lyrics & verses out: I laid down in green pastures, He led me beside still waters, and He reminded me I lack nothing.

The Lord is so creative! In His sovereign creative nature, He KNEW that I would write this song 2 years ago, release it this week of all weeks, and spend the time leading up to this seeing this song come to life through His beautiful creation.

If anything, it allowed me to walk slower & remember the words of psalm 23 every step.

Excited to share more from this beautiful trip & more of this lil song :)
