lately I’ve been having these moments where I catch my reflection somewhere and for a split second I don’t quite recognize myself. not in a scary way but in a way of who am I becoming and where am I going.

I’ve been in such a deep period of reflection that half the time it feels like an out of body experience. like my brain and my memories are being reintegrated back to me after having been operating from a place of sheer survival for so long.

I filmed this one alone, wandering soho with a camera and too many thoughts. this piece is for anyone who’s ever felt like they were living a life that wasn’t quite right and are now starting to find their way back.

suddenly I see was the only song that made sense 🌚 xx, m taken in New York, New York by @miablessinger

whenever someone asks me about my happy place or I meditate, every time I think of blue hour. no doubt in my mind. and every time, about you by the 1975 plays in my head. it’s the moment the city softens, the air turns electric, and everything feels like it’s holding its breath. i’ve always wanted to make a ferry reel at this time of day, because blue hour has never just been light to me, it’s peace. a daily gift from the universe that I never get tired of.

getting to film this with @jamesblessinger made it even more special. he’s my favorite source of inspiration, and when we create something together, it feels like magic. this reel feels like a dream I’ve been waiting years to catch. The perfect shade of blue, finally on film. I present to you, the dream that lets me stay awake 🌚🫶🏼 taken in New York, New York by @miablessinger

if you needed a reminder to stop and smell the flowers, apparently new york keeps all of hers on 28th street 🌹

the first chapter of my new series, notes on being alive!!

this name has been swirling around in my head since last year, but I think I needed to understand what it meant before I could give it a home.

in a world that gives us plenty of reasons to expect the worst, I want to make films that reminds us we can still choose hope. we can choose romanticism. we can keep looking for the parts of life that make the world feel a little bigger and more beautiful.

I think that’s what these films have always been about. now they finally have a name 🥹

midtown, unfortunately.

i’ve spent years telling everyone i hate midtown with so much conviction. and while some of that might still be true, new york has a funny way of catching you off guard, making you see something you’ve passed a thousand times as if you’re seeing it for the first time.

so there i was, standing on sixth avenue, watching a tuesday afternoon happen inside a storefront reflection. the noise, the excess, the impossible amount of everything… all of it suddenly felt cinematic. maybe midtown and i are simply two dramatic forces that refuse to be ignored.

@arleneshechet on Isamu Noguchi’s Sunken Garden for @nytimes’ very own @tmagazine.

directed, filmed, color graded + edited by me 🫶🏼

working on this project was one of the most exciting creative challenges I’ve taken on: how do you capture a sunken garden in the middle of Manhattan without access to a true overhead view all while recording an interview beside a garden of water?? Think like Noguchi.

Noguchi was an artist who approached anything with curiosity. He was so aware of life’s paradoxes and embraced them. Hearing Arlene talk about how much his work opened up for her early on while also being around her was like a breath of inspiration. Seeing her work at Storm King a few years ago for the first time left me with a similar feeling. Would’ve never predicted that I’d be making this with her now.

T Magazine has always been a publication I deeply admire for their commitment to storytelling and curation. seeing my name alongside this piece feels completely surreal, and I’m just so grateful to @jamie.e.bradley for trusting me to bring it to life.

to Noguchi! to Arlene!! To T and to the 25 sculptures that are shaping how we move and see the world 💫💫 taken in New York, New York by @miablessinger

@nickmonterroso for @valentino.beauty 🌹

spent an entire evening romanticizing the New York City skyline and all the tiny rituals that go into getting ready for a night out. more snippets from this world coming soon, including some gorgeous photos from @westcott but for now, the film.

today is my birthday, and i’m 30.

which feels wild to say, not because i’m afraid of it, but because some ages arrive sounding bigger than others.

i’ve made 30 trips around the sun, and honestly, not all of them were easy. most of my twenties were spent somewhere inside my own head, trying to understand who i was, who i was becoming, and why life sometimes felt like it was asking me to grow before i was ready.

but even there, in the haze, there was so much love. so much beauty. so many small moments that were quietly putting me back together. my 20s were the decade I married the love of my life @jamesblessinger and had the most beautiful son, franz. they were also the decade that I moved to nyc and never looked back.

and now, standing at the beginning of a new decade, i don’t feel like i’m losing anything. i’ve never felt more ready for an age in my life.

maybe because, for the first time, i finally feel the age i’ve always been 🌹🌹 taken in New York, New York by @miablessinger
