& last but certainly not least, a post dedicated to us. The last 6 months have been some of the most hectic of our lives - from moving to Brooklyn to getting secretly married to questioning everything about our lives with curious hearts & minds. there is no one else in this world I’d want to ride this roller coaster we call life. thank you for loving me in spite of it all.

Dear younger self,
You have no idea what lies ahead, but I promise you it will be worth it. (…by 32)
In this life, you’re going to make a lot of mistakes. I mean, A LOT of mistakes. You’re going to have to learn that you are, in fact, not always right, that sometimes “sorry” isn’t enough, and that it is okay to not be perfect. You’re going to experience radical change. Change that challenges your core beliefs, change that causes people in your life to leave, and change that makes you cry so much that you decide to start tracking your cries. But most importantly, you’re going to build a life you could have never imagined. A life where you marry the *woman* of your dreams (oh yeah, surprise to no one, you’re queer. But you’re not going to figure it out til your pandemic Tik Tok algorithm starts hinting at it). A life where you actually love to run. A life with not one, but two incredible dogs. A life where you can choose who you call family. A life where your kindness may not always be reciprocated, but you still choose to be kind anyways. A life you love to live.
By the time you turn 32, the compliment you’ll keep receiving is “you are glowing.” And it won’t be because you kept up with applying SPF (you should still work on that) or because you have it all figured out. It will be because you chose to stay and build the life that’s always been waiting for you.
So remember to just keep going. It will not be easy. In fact, it will be really freaking difficult. But it will be beautiful.

A Love Letter to Harlem

Six & a half years calling Harlem my home,
So much has changed navigating the unknowns.
But despite the change of each new season that came and went,
My life is forever better because of my time spent on Convent.

There were traditions like noodles every Friday night,
And moments of awe while capturing the final bits of daylight.
The dog park mom who became a bestie in the blink of an eye,
And the bestie who was always down for a walk or run through Morningside.

Nina fixing my nails, Moonlab hallway glow,
Head nods and soft smiles from the guys chillin’ outside the wash & fold.
The way Mav’s eyes lit up whenever you mentioned his best friend Fred,
And those golden months when the rooftop was ours, no alarm to dread.

Neighbors that became family, ready at the drop of a call,
The nights when you didn’t want to go out to be social, so you just walked down the hall.
Trips to Baylander guaranteed nights full of laughter,
And the neighbor groupchats circulating videos of packages being captured. (#ppp)

It was here where I found my love for making bouquets of flowers,
And where we laid in the lawn outside Hamilton’s house for hours.
Runs to the lighthouse always managed to heal my soul,
And I’ll always cherish the way the light would make the apartment glow.

In Harlem, I finally went back to therapy,
Unpacked the years of life that had cast a sense of doom,
I stayed. I healed. I learned how to move forward,
And found myself through the people who encouraged me to bloom.

Brooklyn may be calling & I can’t wait for our future there,
But I know all is well because Harlem is still near 💕 by @miafred6

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to recap how memorable yesterday was. There are not enough words to explain how incredible, magical, inspiring, joy-bursting, transformational it was to finally run THE NEW YORK CITY MARATHON. So I’ll leave you with these 80 seconds of bliss.

There were so many more moments I didn’t capture throughout the day, but whether you cheered on course, from afar or as a stranger who just could quickly read the 3 letters on my chest, THANK YOU. Because YOU made my day what it was.

New York City, I love you. All of your crazy, loud, beautiful spirit. I want to ALWAYS be a part of it. #nyc #nycmarathon

Over the last 16 weeks, I’ve had the honor & pleasure of being a co-leader for the Dirty 8:30s with @theraywalker @arunninglifetc & @crazycactuscandy . When @thatcoffeyboy called me back in May to discuss the potential of stepping into a leader role, I was hesitant. The love I once had for running had been fading for a while & I wasn’t sure I would be able to exude the joy needed to lead new + seasoned runners to achieving their marathon goals.

What I didn’t realize was how much I *needed* this training cycle… how much I *needed* a community to not only lead but also a community who helped push me to become a better human… how much I *needed* the Dirty 8:30s & the Season 4 leaders of @thenonameprogram .

I have plenty more words I want to share, but for now I’ll leave y’all with this. Last year, my “why” for running the marathon was “Because I can.” This year, my “why” is this crazy, beautiful community. My “why” is “because WE can.”
