New painting on 4’x8’ft sanded maple plywood. Medium spray paint

This painting is a story of the Muskrat , Turtle and NanaBoozhoo during the great flood, the fusion for turtle island . NanaBoozhoo had to Remember to infuse a piece of his spirit into the earth that the muskrat retrieved so the plants could grow on the Turtles shell. Some say the otter some say the beaver. All of these stories are correct and are a reflection of where they come from. Layers of teachings in these stories . Especially is our Anishinaabemowin . For all inquires DM .

These designs can come framed if requested and also installing is also an option . by @miangunclan

Today was a good day . Had a chance to return to a mural I painted for the OTPP ( Ontario Teacher Pension Plan ) and share the meaning behind the design with a chance to do a short presentation on Anishinaabe culture. Always grateful for these opportunities to share . Chi Miigwetch by @miangunclan

I had the honour and privilege to visit Pikogan First Nation in Quebec visiting my Algonquin relatives to paint a mural. This project was a community event that was organized by @minwashin and their absolutely amazing team. So many great memories I get to bring home with me. I’m a very lucky Anishinaabe and these opportunities mean a lot to me. So many people from the community came out to help and share stories. Until we meet again . G’zaagin and Chi Miigwetch. Two murals in 5 days. That’s what I call team work!

After an incredible past fews weeks, the new “River of Life” landmark mural under the Ontario Line bridge is now complete!

The mural was designed and installed by lead Indigenous artist Quentin Commanda a.k.a. Que Rock (@miangunclan), with contributions from guest mural artist Alex “Vizsla” Bacon (@vizsla_bacon) and supporting artist Sadie Marshall (@sadierock13), and Indigenous artist mentee Shawni-Nodin Nanaokase.

On Monday, September 21st, @riverside_bia, artists, community, and partners celebrated the “River of Life” mural. The celebration was attended by our friends from the @cityofto, @metrolinx, @eastendartsto, Riverside residents, as well as MPP @petertabuns and Councillor @paulafletcher.

Located on the south side of the Ontario Line Bridge underpass on Queen St E, the mural creates a strong visual identity for Riverside and serves as a recognizable neighbourhood landmark and future wayfinding feature for the Ontario Line station.

This new mural brings together land, water, animals, Indigenous knowledge, community identity and artistic expression. It connects Indigenous stories and artistic traditions with the Riverside community, creating a welcoming space and landmark where past, present and future meet.

In case you missed it, check out some of the highlights from yesterday’s “River of Life” mural celebration over on the blog! LINK IN BIO (https://riverside-to.com/river-of-life-mural-celebration-highlights/)

The “River of Life” mural project was facilitated by @riverside_bia, with funding support from @cityofto and @feddev_ontario through the Transit Construction Mitigation Fund, as well as support from @metrolinx.
