Announcing my next documentary feature film! KID WITH A MOVIE CAMERA.

This film has been in the making my whole life and it’s been the main project I’ve been living with the last couple years.

Kid With a Movie Camera is built from decades of archive footage, interviews, old homemade videos I shot as a kid, animation, and re-creation sequences. It’s a deeply personal attempt to understand how a video camera became my escape, my lifeline, and eventually my way of confronting the evangelical faith I was raised in.

It’s a subject that’s been close to me for as long as I can remember—one that’s quietly poured into my work over the years. It took time to realize, but this is the theme I now understand I’m drawn to exploring, and the one I feel compelled to keep confronting through my films and art.

I’m incredibly grateful to the people who helped bring this into existence. Huge thank you to Bogdan Darev and Ben Johnson for making this film happen (through @filmabeestudios ), @cscurrier for helping me realize it as our DP. @narimeow our amazing marketing lead at Filmabee and the entire team who poured themselves into this. Truly couldn’t have done it without you.

Releasing later this year.

Festival announcements, screenings, and more to come.

Stay tuned.

Please follow our official page which we just dropped yesterday for updates on the movie. @kwamc.movie

In my 30s, I finally understood what had been true all along: I’ve been using art as therapy my entire life.

Filmmaking became the language through which I processed emotion, chaos, and control.
Since I was eight, I’ve known this was my path
and though it’s never been easy, it’s the only one I’ve ever wanted.

My work has always been about truth, lifting the curtain on what we’re told not to talk about.
Religion, pain, protest, survival… every movie is an act of empathy and rebellion.

I create for the kid who found his voice behind a camera.
I create to remind you that art can heal.
You can tell stories that matter.
You can turn pain into purpose.

🎥 Art as therapy. Art as rebellion.
Follow along, this is only the beginning.

Turning your film dreams into reality…

A little behind-the-scenes look at shooting my new feature film, in Seattle, WA! 🎬 produced by @filmabeestudios

We recently wrapped several days of filming at @harborislandstudios (shoutout to Kris and Kirk) on an incredible set built from the ground up by our talented production designer, Mariya Apostolova (@biomimi_healingspaces ) She truly brought the vision to life, and we’ll be sharing a separate video showing how she created these walls and transformed the space!

In front of the camera is Bogdan Darev, who also serves as a co-writer/producer on the film and CEO of Filmabee Studios, the Seattle-based production company behind the project. Behind the lens is our fantastic cinematographer, Cameron Currier (@cscurrier), along with an incredible crew of talented artists and filmmakers who made all of this possible.

We shot on @atlaslensco Orion anamorphic lenses, capturing the atmosphere and visual language we’ve been working toward. (Shoutout @koerner_camera & @lensmonger )

Independent filmmaking takes an enormous amount of collaboration, creativity, and dedication, and I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who helped bring this world to life.

More behind-the-scenes footage to come. Can’t wait to share what we’ve been creating!

I shout out our camera team a lot, but a film set takes a whole crew of incredibly talented people to make it all happen. So here’s some love for a few of the other essential and rather awesome key players behind the scenes 🎬

🎙️ Brian Pamintuan — Sound Mixer & fellow floral button-up enthusiast 🌺
🎨 Mariya Apostolova — Production Designer
🎬 Bry Troyer — 1st AD
📝 Justin Vinall — Script Supervisor
💄 Liza Vavilova — Hair & Makeup
👔 Aubrey Kornelis — Wardrobe

And not pictured, but absolutely essential:
💻 Maurice Morales — DIT

Grateful for this crew and everything they brought to set. 🙌 by @micahknapp
