Reintroducing myself for anyone new here.

I’m a NYC-based coach and the founder of SlimThick. For the past 15 years, I’ve worked with clients 1x1, in groups, and more recently through remote coaching. The virtual setting has allowed me to work with people across different cities, schedules, and stages of life.

The goal has always been the same: help people feel more comfortable in their bodies, more confident in the gym, and carry that into their relationships and everyday life.

If you’ve been following along, thank you for your continued support. And if you’re new here, welcome.

Stay Thick. by @michael.autore

How to work with our founder:

SlimThick was built to help people feel more comfortable in their bodies, while building strength, confidence, and consistency that carries into everyday life.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach here. Some people prefer structure and accountability through remote coaching. Others want the flexibility of a monthly program they can follow on their own time. And for many, a blend of both tends to work best.

Beyond coaching, SlimThick continues to grow as a community. From retreats and events to conversations around mental health and personal development, the goal is to create a space where people feel supported in the gym and life.

If something here resonates, or you want to work with Michael, there’s a way to get involved.

Comment a 💜 below and we’ll reach out to get the conversation started.

You don't have to carry everything on your own.

In this clip from today's new episode of It Takes Balls, @michael.autore shares a piece of advice he hopes others facing testicular cancer will hear: bring someone with you to appointments and don't be afraid to ask for help.

There can be so much to process after a diagnosis. Having someone beside you to listen, remember the details, or simply be there can make a difference.

Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness. Sometimes, letting people show up for you is part of getting through it. 💜

One year ago today, I found a hard growth in my groin. Just days later, I was diagnosed with cancer.

The last 12 months have been full of challenges, heartache, and chemotherapy, along with physical and hormonal changes. There have been constant surprises, scans, and difficult decisions, all of which have weighed heavily on my body and mind.

Some of the effects of treatment have developed into long-term complications, while others have brought changes that I may have to live with permanently. One thing I’ve come to accept is that life will never be exactly as it was before I found that tumor.

But there have also been so many blessings along the way.

I’ve shared beautiful moments with family, had conversations I never imagined having, and grown closer to my wife. I’ve connected with more people than I can count, leaned on strangers for support, and received thoughtful messages from people around the world.

It’s been a difficult journey, but also one filled with more love and gratitude than I could have imagined.

And here we are, exactly one year later, in Los Angeles celebrating a friend’s wedding. Another beautiful moment that I appreciate so much more because of everything I’ve been through.

This past year has taught me that some days, you have control over your life, and other days, life has control over you. What matters is how you respond to the things you can’t control. I’ve had to learn when to ask for help, how to quiet the dialogue in my head, and how to keep showing up regardless of the circumstances.

Today, I’m grateful for my health, my heartbeat, and my mind.

Life is precious. Take care of yourself and the people around you. Continue to challenge yourself, get your hands dirty, and don’t take the ordinary moments for granted.

Life can punch you in the face (or the balls) at any moment, so you might as well build the strength to handle whatever comes your way.

This summer has felt more meaningful…

Not because anything has been especially extravagant, but because I’ve found myself appreciating the ordinary moments more than I used to.

Training. Traveling. Walking my dog. Spending time with family. Being outside. Feeling strong enough to say yes to things again.

There are still parts of the past year that I’m navigating, and I don’t think an experience like cancer just disappears once treatment ends. It changes the way you look at time, your body, your relationships, and what actually deserves your energy.

A friend shared a quote with me earlier this year that I keep coming back to:

“If you have to go through hell, don’t come back empty handed.”

That’s the perspective I try to carry with me now.

Life feels different, but in a lot of ways, it also feels more beautiful.

People often assume I’m always motivated to work out just because I’m a coach.

The truth is, I’m not.

Building new habits as an adult is hard. Keeping them is even harder. Life gets busy, responsibilities pile up, and our workouts slip.

While I hold my clients accountable, I’ve built systems to hold myself accountable too.

Part of that is a group text with friends where we share completed workouts and the goals we’re working toward.

Another part is putting something on the calendar a few months in advance. An upcoming race, event, or performance gives me a reason to stay consistent, even on the days I don’t feel like training.

And maybe the most important piece? I have a coach.

Every Tuesday morning at 9 am, I train with my Muay Thai coach. It’s become non-negotiable. I’ve built my client schedule around that session because I know how important it is for me.

Accountability looks different for everyone, but we all need a little structure to keep us moving.

Motivation comes and goes. The systems we build are what keep us showing up.

We are running it back…

Last year’s Women’s Discussion Night created meaningful conversations around mental health, body image, and strength training. More importantly, it created connection.

On August 20th, we’re bringing the event back.

This year, Casey Wortmann will lead a discussion focused on social integration, community, and the role our relationships play in mental health.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned through hosting these events, it’s that confidence grows in community.

We hope you’ll join us. Link is in bio 💜 by @michael.autore
