Body and Soul” from my forthcoming album “The Ecstasy of Love” will be available wherever music is sold (digitally) Wednesday, April 16th. To me, this rendition of the classic American standard merges instrumental phrasing with vocal expression, embodying the jazz ethos of treating the voice like a horn; “Moody has an attractive baritone voice…his horn like phrasing and choice of notes keeps the momentum going, bringing the famous song to a satisfying ending” - Scott Yanow, noted jazz journalist and historian (on “Body and Soul”). Billie Holiday is the foundation, Carmen McRae is the natural evolution, my hope is that “Body and Soul” and “The Ecstasy of Love” in its entirety reflects, refines and expands upon Billie and Carmen’s legacy of technical mastery and deep emotional intelligence; navigating the emotional and harmonic contours of a song, seamlessly weaving music ideas and phrases together.
