ALL or NOTHING! 👊

A dream moment right here from some moons ago, but this fish did such a good job burning into our memories that it still feels like it went down just yesterday!

A proper one doing its absolute best demolition job on a @drtheadz Tiny Klash Low. The result: 118cm of straight up swimbait crushing gold awesomeness!

We’ve dedicated many many years to creeping around after these epic fish, but this was one of those ones that validates all the efforts, chronic sleep deprivation and constant overthinking. Threadies are something else, especially when they pump cool baits!

An insane eat, a wild fight, a few tense moments after feeling a hook pull during the fight and seeing a trophy fish release strong all encapsulate a moment we’ll never forget and strive to replicate and surpass! 🙌

The Golden Coast pt.6 🫶

Bad day to be a school of herring, jelly prawns, or a hatch-matching imitation made out of plastic that darts its way enticingly through the water looking like it’s trying to escape harms way but really wants to be belted by a certain epic silver fish.

Welcome to the Golden Coast, where plague numbers of Trevally swarm every canal, river, creek, and sand flat in town. Hungry, angry, and locked in to any and all sudden movements that look out of place.

I’ve spent too many hours to care running after these things. And I regret absolutely none of it. Light tackle, cool lures, and exhausted drags. I love these things like you love Jacks. It never gets old. 🙌

The big SEQ Jew rabbit hole ⚡️

Over the last few years, we’ve delved into actually understanding these SEQ Jewfish. The last couple of seasons in particular have been fascinating.

Going back through years worth of our own records, weather and conditions archives, piecing together macro and micro patterns to understand why we caught fish when and where we did, and what should expect going forward.

Why? Because they’re endlessly interesting and just so sick.

But through all the figuring out and time spent fishing, there’s still an instinctual element that’s hard to define.

That energy in the air. The feeling something is about to go down. You’re tapped into something. A confidence about the when and where you are.

This fish was a prime example.

The moment @braydenmott and I hopped out of the car, without even seeing the water, we could noticeably feel something about this zone. The whole walk in we were saying, “You got that sense something sick is about to happen too, right!?”

Normally we’d patiently watch and observe. Not this time. The sense was too strong to ignore. Straight to casting.

Almost instantly, a big doink turned into something very large racing off and pulling hooks.

We dipped disappointed and feeling like we’d burned the moment. We checked elsewhere, but nowhere inspired us like that first zone.

So we returned.

Upon our arrival we got the same feeling again as soon as we jumped out the car.

This time, we stuck hooks into another tank as it engulfed the lure and took off into the dark. After an intense fight, we slid it into the net, absolutely stoked to have capitalised on that moment.

101cm of SEQ’s finest landbased silver slab.

The Greatest One, for real.

We go above and beyond, overthinking and dedicating ourselves for these moments. Sensing and identifying that instinctual feeling you’re in the presence of something epic is what we live for.

But sometimes their rarity is what makes them, and the reward, so special. Maybe you don’t have to explain it, you could just enjoy it when you find yourselves lucky to be amongst it. 🙌

It’s about that time 😏

It’s the time of year where the local scene’s collective attention starts turning to these crazy things.

Our philosophy for Jacks is pretty simple: keep the season’s average size above the magic 50cm mark. We shoot for that by throwing mullet imitations and big baits, seeking out those larger fish.

This memorable one from a couple seasons ago clocked in at 63cm, uplifting that season average during a wild bite window where @andrewlangdown and I also wrangled 57cm and 53cm specimens.

Years ago when I posted regularly, I ran a series of posts spanning years themed ‘it must suck being a mullet’ — essentially documenting the aftermath of mullet imitations and big swimbaits being engulfed by sick local fish.

During my extended hiatus from posting, when this fish was caught, the theme never wavered and some epic moments were actualized out of the social media spotlight.

The lure clamped by its jaws has been a decade-long Mangrove Jack all-time favourite (if you know you definitely know), thrown on a setup I love squabbling up against Jacks with.

A combination that will be once again tasked with putting in some very heavy work again this Spring-Summer.

If you’re gearing up for a big Jack season, may your Red Dog szn be abundant. I hope you kick all your goals.

We have some very lofty ambitions in mind this season, and we’re going to push hard to make it happen.

It’s going down!

The Golden Coast pt.5 🫶

No extended caption this go around. Just know we’re entering arguably the best time of year for those who take their fishing very seriously around here.

Respect the zones.
Respect the fish.
Respect the game.
Respect the people (very important!).

I love this sh*t.

Welcome to Spring-Summer 26 szn.
Lock in or stay at home. 👊

Downsize but go heavier? Interesting proposition. 🤨

Throwback to a short, but unreal bite window.

We found something special the session prior, but after multiple smokings, some changes had to be made to convert those big bites.

>>>

The fish want smaller prawns? Adjust.

They WANTED a 3” Holt Swim Prawn in ‘King Prawn’. Perfect. Just make sure you jam that thing onto a 4/0 Irukandji Iron Claw this time around. Oversized, strong af and necessary. A pairing you’ll thank yourself for in the moment.

Now for a setup with max extraction power while still light enough to fish small presentations. That’s exactly where reaching for a Bone Drago + 22 HD Zillion combo thrives.

>>>

So when that particular bite window rolled in again, and the first bite hit right on schedule, this time we were adequately prepared.

Swinging hooks hard and winning a wild tug of war against a 63cm beast of a Mangrove Jack off the rip.

Night made already.

But why not delicately thread the now-shredded Holt Prawn back onto the jighead? Hopefully it’s got one more in it.

>>>

Very shortly after…

Another big doink. Chrome flash. Airborne in the blink of an eye. After dancing dangerously around structure, a 93cm Mundi got its photo taken before being carefully released.

Yep. The changes worked.

Conversion rate optimised.
Target fish both acquired.
Job finished.
