Starting tomorrow and going through the end of January, a free, mostly online convening of thinkers and practitioners, adults and youth, focused on how education can be done differently:
the Learning Planet Festival!

Of special interest here are those events organized by members and supporters of Rights-Centric Education, who, above all, are concerned with the respect and agency of young people (link below).

Today is World Children's Day, commemorating the Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the UN General Assembly in 1959.

This document calls for "compulsory education" for all, but how that is interpreted today critically differs from its origin.

Hey! So, this’ll be an update for people I only connect with on here generally.
More recently, my artwork has realigned with preexisting concerns for education theory and alternative education, while also investigating my own periods of self-directed study and books important to my growth.
It became apparent that my interests are still especially sparked by these domains, yet also evident just how much affinity the library, itself, has with the educational attributes I’ve researched, of non-compulsory, life-long learning, intellectual empowerment, and community-building.
Consequently, I have decided I will transition from grad studies in art to that in library and information science. I hope to reenter the library workforce and I’ll be moving to Norfolk soon.
Photography and art will always be part of my education and the work I do, whatever form that takes. I’ve been grateful for my time in VCU’s MFA program and the people I was lucky to learn with. All these VCU library books behind me will have to be returned but not so my experiences!
