Congratulations to my dear friend Neila Berube, founder of the Michael Berube Foundation. @neils8282 Her son, Michael’s foundation was named Person of the Year at this year’s Let’s Walk Let’s Talk event Loss can deeply affect our mental health. Some days, facing life without someone we love requires a strength we never knew we had.

Moving forward does not mean moving on. It means carrying the love, memories, and pain with us while choosing, one day at a time, to keep living with greater purpose—helping others and honoring those we have lost.

That is courage. That is strength. That is purpose.

That is why Play With Purpose JP Foundation proudly supports the Michael Berube Foundation.

This weekend reminded us of the incredible power of unity in community—showing up for one another, honoring those we have lost, supporting those who are grieving, and reminding each other that no one has to walk this path alone.

And healing can look like smiling, too. A smile doesn’t mean the pain is gone or that we have forgotten. Sometimes it simply means the love, friendships, and memories are helping us find our light again.

Neila and I understand that in a very personal way.

Together, we are turning loss into love, grief into strength, and remembrance into purpose.

Two foundations. Two legacies. One community showing what it means to turn unimaginable loss into something that can help others.

Together, we continue to say their names, honor their lives, and carry Michael and Jason’s legacies forward—with purpose.

October is widely recognized as National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month. This weekend we walk for the @michaelberubefoundation to love our Michael, speak out against the stigma and remind everyone the world is better with YOU in it. 🫶🏼

A weekend dedicated to our family and friends who are still here so we walk together today, tomorrow, and always.

If you/ when you struggle with your mental health, take time for you. Research all the natural modalities/ therapies and talk to someone. Medicine exists to help as an option and everything is worth exploring.

I learned that when Men share they have suicidal thoughts the protocol is to act immediately (different for women) because they are more likely to act after right after sharing. In four days, LICC is honoring The Michael R. Berube Foundation as our Person of the Year.

When the Berube family lost Michael to suicide, they made a choice that changed this community. They built a foundation in his memory. They launched the Michael Berube Sunset Color Run right here in Long Beach. They showed up year after year — and in doing so, they helped save lives they may never even know about.

“A life that is remembered is never lost.”

On Sunday, we honor Michael. We celebrate his family. And we walk together as a community that refuses to let anyone face a crisis alone.
