Every little bit completed brings this partnership between @osumuseumofart and @sarahroblartist to completion. I’m super stoked to see what Sarah has in store, this is going to be epic!

On a separate but related note, these tyvek suits are hardly what I’d call breathable 😅

Sometimes, you encounter electrical wire instead of framing wire. At least it’s better than shoelaces (yes, I’ve seen that too, don’t ask why).

Let’s throw some nylon-coated stainless steel wire on this frame. Stronger, easier to work with, and looks cleaner.

A day in the life of a preparator, there’s always something different to take care of. Today, in preparation for our next exhibit at @osumuseumofart. I had the pleasure or reframing this lovely watercolor by Dale McKinney, Oklahoma native and former professor of art at @okstate.

The original mat board housing had grown yellow with age, and the acidic cardboard backing panel wasn’t doing any favors either. Upon removing the artwork from the frame, I found the paper had been stapled to the mat board, so I carefully removed them and secured it with Mylar strips. These archival, self-adhesive strips are a much quicker option than traditional hinging with mulberry paper, and a convenient choice when the mat window fully covers the artwork.

After thoroughly cleaning the glass, I replaced the cardboard with foam core board, and I enclosed everything with a Tyvek dust jacket. I will also save the original labels from the frame. Now this painting will be much happier for years to come, and can be enjoyed by our visitors starting next week. Rambling & Meandering, opening Tuesday at the museum!

The best part about decades-old expired film is you never know how it will affect the resulting shot.

Join us on Nov. 9 from 11 AM - 2 PM at the OSU Museum of Art to explore the basics of photography. Try out our camera obscura, then make your own pinhole camera to take home! This month’s activities are led by local artist, Michael King, and inspired by Brett Weston’s puzzling photography, featured in "Shadows and Light."

Plus, don’t miss Story Time with the Stillwater Public Library at 11:30 AM and 1 PM. See you there! taken in Oklahoma State University Museum of Art by @michaelkingart
