We're overjoyed to announce that Chicago-based conductor, writer, and educator @michaellewanski will become our second Artistic Director! His first concert will be Oct. 18, 2026 — our 2026/27 season opener. Born in Savannah, Georgia and trained at Saint Petersburg Conservatory and @yale.music, Michael is a self-described "advocate for both new and old musics alike" who seeks to "create deep connections between audiences, musicians, composers, and the music that is part of their culture, society, and history." When he's not leading our ensemble, Michael is the conductor of @ensembledalniente, an internationally lauded new music ensemble, and Associate Professor of Instrumental Ensembles @depaulsom. "It's a great honor to be invited to succeed Greg Hughes as the Artistic Director of the Lakeview Orchestra, and I look forward to building on the terrific artistic legacy he and the ensemble have built over the past 13 years," Michael says. "Lakeview Orchestra is a group of excellent musicians who are here for the right reasons: love of the music, a desire to inspire its community, and a belief that orchestras are for everyone, not just a few." Fall could not come sooner. Join us in welcoming Michael to the @lakevieworch hive! 🩵 🙌🏼 🎻 🥁 🎺 🎼 💙 A text graphic with a blue background. Not the best picture, but there’s something I like about how candid it is. RIP composer Bernard Rands. I’m very sad to join the chorus of voices lamenting his passing, but am happy that there are so many of us. I’ve been lucky to conduct many of his pieces over the years and obviously look forward to continuing his legacy—but what I will miss most about him is his consummate musicianship, his penetrating analyses, and his strongly defended opinions (with which I did not always agree, but for which he inveriably had airtight arguments). He was a musician’s musician, truly in it for the love of the game. I’ll miss you greatly, bud. by @michaellewanski

ICE agents cuffing @26thwardchicago alderperson Jesse Fuentes for asking if they have a judicial warrant. As a resident of this ward I call on all Chicago residents to contact their alderpeople and demand that they resist ICE. Do it now. https://blockclubchicago.org/2025/10/03/federal-agents-handcuff-chicago-alderperson-who-tried-to-help-immigrant/ by @michaellewanski
