For a long time, I’ve been comparing my insides to other people’s outsides. Enough of that.

I’ve always genuinely wanted to help people. I knew it then, and I know it now. In that knowing, I’ve been cutting parts of my ego out of the equation. Today, I believe I’ve made the final cut. I’ve been mulling over a new way to help creatives in the Pittsburgh region and beyond..

I’m working on building an infrastructure to support many—not just a few—but many who can benefit from our experiences.

If you are an artist, manager, producer, engineer, graphic designer, videographer, or anyone adjacent to the creative ecosystem, please leave your information in the link ⬆️ .

In the coming months, we will be launching programs and initiatives that will empower creatives around the world, completely free of charge.

I’ve been having some very special conversations. I want to plant seeds for a thriving creative ecosystem.

Testing some editing techniques.
I never was a believer in the “who you know” approach.

I do not believe you can network your way to the top of an industry.

I believe that the product or service you deliver has to be spectacular and then you have to communicate that in a spectacular way.

I see some companies are able to be in key rooms and have great products, and that’s extraordinary but most people just seek the room for fame or validation.

To be clear, it’s really hard to run a business, so do what you think is right, I do not have all the answers.

What I do have is my personal experience.

When we took this photo. Someone said “Mike going to have that long paragraph with this joint.” So here goes.

A couple things happen this week that sat with me.

@leonfordspeaks said “bro we have so many strong relationships because we have spent our lives helping people.”

And he was right. Helping is the art to relationship building, and doing it in a non transactional way is the science.

Last week I did something really out of character and @feddthegod gave me grace. He didn’t really think twice about it.

And to be honest both of those things really flip this week on its head for me.

I am appreciative to my friends and colleagues partners/clients for their trust, and to my love ones .. me love u !!

When I hear people say don’t ever take advice from someone who isn’t where you want to be.

I always thought that was a poor use of resources.

Grandma and unc, always gave the best advice lol.

I’ve always look at my life as the sum and subtraction of the choices I made or chose not to make. There is not a greater gift in life knowing that where you are now is the result of what you did or did not do 10 years ago.

In this journey of being a storyteller(I hate the word) I have come across the narrative and framing of telling your story on digital platforms indicates your too busy talking about the work versus doing the work. The work should be done in silent.

Also the framing of when you talk about the work you do, you seek admiration and validation.

With every cell in my body and with the fabric of my soul, I oppose these things and consider it manipulative and oppressive.

I consider telling your story across mediums to your professional/personal communities, a vital part of the progression of society. Even to reinforce your family.

Information sharing and awareness is an important part of the closing of the gap between the scientific method and something becoming a fact !

My story this week has been tiring and extremely fulfilling, between @breakout , @startuppgh , and Main Streets events, it felt really good.

I hope your story was good this week too. I hope you scream your story at the top of lungs for everyone to hear and enjoy and experience. I pray you do it without fear or insecurity.

I pray more so for me than you, because your story will inspire me and others to be a better human !

I’ve thought a lot about my time at @cheyneyuniv . The things I learned there have driven every single thing I do now.

The parties, the fashion shows, the homecomings. All the things we did, those skills serve me in unmistakable ways.

They served me today ! I became a man up cheyney.

I’m honored to accept this 40 under 40, and I am extremely interested in ways I can support my alma mater. @cheyneyalumni

I ask god everyday for guidance on the decisions I make. I focus on energy, proof of concept and results over time for the relationships I choose to invest in.

I make sure my sleep aligns with my moral compass, and I give grace to the people who don’t think like me.

It’s Friday. 20 events next week. They said be careful for what you ask.

I was grateful in the ask, knowing it could happen. I love this city.
