Going on eight years now, every time we host one I think oh, this couldn’t be more divinely timed for us to gather as women and then even more transpires in our country and world. Bradford: People speak of seasons of death - how there are life stages where the passings become a part of the fabric of that age. Or sometimes there are clusters of loss. But your passing is not a season; unsurprisingly, without even meaning to you made your own weather leaving the mortal coil. That’s the dynamic, vibrant, talented, empathetic, cheeky Bradford you’ve always been; the one who has been my close friend for over 30 years - one of one, the guy I once told in junior high he was certainly made of at least 50% Doritos, and you agreed. Son, husband, father, brother, friend, amazing musician, talented film editor, a master of taking goofy photos and collector of colored sunglasses collections and so so much more.

I love you. We all love you. Let’s meet up when we’re both stardust and go see the magic bus finally. You might already be driving it around in your heaven. For now, I’ll never quit speaking your name, and we all will keep loving Britney, Don, Lennon, Mazzy, Bowie - all of your family and all you loved (more in other slides).

In one of your eulogies - I believe it was your sister who said you were destined to head west. We two - destined individually since we were young to chase the California Dream, and we got to do that together almost 24 years ago. Now, more than half our lives have been spent on the creative and rich soil of Southern California. And now, like the last nine years of visitations I’ve felt with Ritter, you are visiting me in waking and dreaming visions of us all on San Diego and Malibu beaches. It’s warm and safe and joyful there, and Ritter never stops saying the word “tour” like “tur”, and I never tire of hearing It.

The last few weeks as I type to others the truth of your passing, it’s like composing a nightmare, a dystopia, and then realizing we all must live in it. Same when I speak the words of your incredible existence in the same sentence as “gone”. The tears always appear, and the way they flow feels like they’re becoming a part of my new composition. I’ll spend the rest of this lifetime mourning, celebrating, telling stories about you and adding to your playlist Matt, Brendon and Aaron and I started (also pictured) by @michaleethomas

Love in its infinite forms: I heard honest, heartfelt & humorous vows - about the richness of silence together, how connection melts our sense of loneliness, some great Jungian/depth psychology references as to be expected from Pacifica alums (nice Winnicott quote, officiant Brett!), and I felt the ease of the whole day, set forth by Maura and James.⁣

Big Sur occupies a lot of space within me, and it was the perfect backdrop of a union that felt rich and breezy and a love so lush like theirs. So many prayers for Big Sur right now and all of the places under extreme duress. Friends as chosen family, gathering people who do and don’t know one another in community and everything that comes from a communal life fuels me. So the many years of the pandemic, isolation and chronic illness with these gifts occuring in diminished frequency has felt like I was searching for oxygen. Getting back into this collective life that we’re so lucky to live fills my lungs with the deepest, juiciest breaths. A few weeks ago I read Even the Good Girls Will Cry by Melissa Auf Der Maur @xmadmx, who I have long proclaimed is a favorite female artist (also bass player for Hole and Smashing Pumpkins for my fave albums of the latter that was maligned by many for a long time). The book covers the 90s (my absolute favorite time) and is an ode to the last analog generation. But what is peppered throughout is a living embodiment of magic, of the powers of the unseen, the mystery and potency of dreams and just how transformative it is if we listen - to our dreams, to synchronicities, to patterns, to what wants to come through when we are still enough to receive.⁣⁣⁣

It’s no secret I bemoan the time we’re in so much 🤮, but after reading this and the beautiful talk Saturday at @philosophical_research_society I continue to try to reframe this to - how can those of us that lived during this extraordinary and also charged time of connecting and seeking art and inspiration in the analog world, DIY art and businesses and our actual souls and time not being controlled and monetized bring that into the here and now? What do we have to teach and share that can help redirect from a pretty nightmarish existence in many ways? This book and talk also helped galvanize reconnecting to my Jungian graduate school background and the power of myths I’ve already been diving back into - synchronicity. ✨

This month I fought hard to stand still a bit - know it’s a paradox of sorts. My body stopped me from only burning in rage; it’s brought stillness and quietude to balance and a new level of tending so that I may simmer in my service to myself, others and Earth. Not flame out.

I of course have been mired in the study of human rewilding. The concept of rewilding originates as an application to the natural world and is defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary as: “The planned reintroduction of a plant or animal species and especially a keystone species or apex predator into a habitat from which it has disappeared (as from hunting or habitat destruction) in an effort to increase biodiversity and restore the health of an ecosystem”. Well, spoiler alert, humans are THE apex predators on Mother Earth, and in many ways we have vacated ourselves and monocropped our souls, spirit and the ground we tread on.⁣ I hope we can all embark on a journey of remembering.#rewilding #ecotherapy #womenshealth by @michaleethomas

Jumping right in here, in a space I have scarcely left a trace in for years. I have gotten to build years of my therapeutic/healing arts work and facilitation naturally and quietly. I have something coming up I am hoping will reach the people it needs to right now.⁣

Beginning February 26, I am offering an eight-week online process group I created, born of my experiences in private practice, my own journey and immersing myself in a lot of spaces: Radical Somatics: Body As Map Process Group. This is for female-identifying folks who experience chronic and complex illnesses and varying experiences in the world from the sort of able-bodied norms. ⁣

The group is to ideally be experienced the entire eight weeks instead of just drop-ins; however, I invite you to either arrange a 15-minute chat with me prior to if you’d like a little more info and comfort in how it will unfurl and also invite drop-ins for a one-session cost to the first. Supposed “limitations”can lead to #wildness too, and that’s the space we’ll be in. 🫧

This was my view January 8, 2025 from a bend in Kanan Road on my way down to Malibu, where, surprisingly, the 1 was open. It was eerie; Topanga was now on fire; the Palisades were quickly disappearing under fire; and Altadena was virtually almost gone already. This would become the costliest wildfire in American history. But Angelenos are not a number, not a statistic. We are beyond resilient. Shortly after this fire came the first insane ICE raids of this regime and the first federalization of our troops (against Americans), and people met it with passion and fury to protect our neighbors. We’re not snowflakes. I’ve never been one to ascribe many labels to myself nor to join too many “groups”, but I bear “Californian” so proudly. ❄️🩵✨

I spent an entire year on the road (almost 15 months to be exact) - and more consistently over the summer - flinging myself into the maw of jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring landscapes and communities in my beloved soulmate of a state, California. From Idyllwild to Arcata to camping in the Redwood Forest to Sacramento, to multiple trips to Monterey, Novato, weeks spent at Esalen in Big Sur, interspersed with long stays in Topanga every month and lots of loops again and again. Here I saw beauty and burn scars, grief and resilience co-existing so inspiringly, in every major quadrant of the state I ventured.⁣⁣
