Africans Building Africans is now HAMWE. 🩷

We had been looking for a name that perfectly encompasses what we believe in and stand for; that we are ONE. We are not separate from each other. Through our differences, cultures, borders, we still share the same human experience. ♾️ That compassion and love for one another reigns above everything else.

Hamwe, the Kikuyu and Kinyarwanda word for together, fit so well into our ethos. 😊

Welcome to Hamwe 🥰🤗

And to decades ahead of more stories, art and connection. ♾️🩷

Journey with us through time as we take you 53+ years into the past. 🌀
Watch Kenya transform before your eyes. So much has changed about this beautiful city, but so much still stays the same.
How we move through our world, how we connect with each other, how our culture and history is threaded through our lives every day.

After all this time, some fundamentals are so integral to us; art, community, music.

Over at Africans Building Africans, we believe that through space and time, we will always have a shared human experience that should never be lost. We preserve and document culture, and partner with communities to ensure their story touches others and tangibly gives back to these communities.

Our first collection features the Njemps of Ol Kokwe Island, Lake Baringo. Read about their story and shop the collection through the link in bio! 🩷

@megamuia did a phenomenal job with the music, sampling it from a Tanzanian song.

We are so connected. We are one.

When you’re so used to the whole location scout/recce > shot list/storyboard > shoot pipeline, it becomes so second nature to you, and it’s easy to forget how magical those moments truly are. It all feels so seamless when you’ve done it 9272919 times. 🤣 But I was going through all the prep + BTS shots of this shoot and WOW. It’s so beautiful seeing how everything came to life.

From hearing @directedbynatashaayoo’s crazy neo-noir concept to going on recce with her and @t.i.l.t.o.n_ to map out all our shots, angles and lighting, and finally, putting everything together on shoot day.

Filmmaking can feel like different people bringing in the ingredients to make this giant pie and fully trusting each other’s unique method to do so.
Loved this shoot 😊😊🤗

Which is your favourite recce vs final shot moment? 🥰

Also everyone laughs at my storyboards but as long as the message is understood, no? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@njerae’s On My Own MV is out on YouTube 😍😍🤗

Teddy Bear Island @teddybearislandkenya in Lake Baringo captured at different times of the day 🌞🌅

First Frame: Sarah Lenapunya, a leader in her community, taking us to Ol Kokwe Island as she shows us her daily routine

Second Frame: A group of fishermen heading home at the end of the day

Third Slide: The moment during an edit when I realized I had gotten the same island at the same position in different frames on different days at different times of the day 🤣🤗

Dance, to me, is an inward journey.

It is where instinct meets discipline, where silence becomes movement, and where what I cannot always explain finds a way to speak through my body.

The more I dance, the more I understand that not every feeling needs to become an answer. Sometimes it is simply an invitation to listen deeper.

Dance has taught me to trust intuition, but also to question it. To create from what I feel, while remaining humble enough to be guided by something greater than myself.

Perhaps this is what movement means to me: **not just making the invisible visible, but learning to listen to what moves within me.**

And maybe, in the deepest sense, every movement is a way of returning inward. 🟡
