Our final day of painting at Lake Tahoe, and my heart is full. I spent the week supporting other artists as they created their beautiful pieces, which was absolutely priceless. I was blessed with a quiet moment to paint this scene …. Yall those vibrant turquoise waters and snow-capped peaks were impossible to resist. I feel so deeply grateful for this time, this place, and the inspiring community I shared it with. Wildacres is off to an incredible start! What a joy to have an amazing new group of artists in my class this week. Such a joy to be on faculty with such great friends too!! Yesterday was all about composition and values. We spent time walking the beautiful grounds, studying from life, and soaking up timeless lessons from Edgar Payne. It’s always amazing how those foundational principles continue to shape the way we see and paint.Then I wandered into @kschap s class and ended up making my own paint! 🎨 What a fun and unexpected experience. Between painting, learning, and being surrounded by so many talented artists, it’s already turning into an unforgettable week.I can’t wait to see what today brings! I am truly overwhelmed, Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, cards, texts, posts, and thoughtful gifts yesterday. THANK YOU I spent my birthday here in Cashiers doing what I love, painting with AMAZING friends. It was the perfect way to celebrate.Thank you again for all the wonderful artists and guests who joined in my waterfall demo too!! Loving painting in Cashiers this week! What a dream of a landscape. Every turn offers another scene begging to be painted, and the people here have been just as beautiful as the views.I’ve been painting alongside dear friends, making many new ones, and chasing every patch of sunshine between the rain showers. Sometimes the weather keeps you on your toes, but those fleeting moments of light are often the ones most worth capturing. Hunkering down in a barn, allowed me to me the majestic Gypsy and she more than willing allowed me to paint her portrait!! The truth of an in-progress painting, for me, is so much crazier than the finished work… it’s all the bones that lie beneath the surface, the structure that no one else is meant to see, the places where the painting is still trying to find itself.There’s a very particular moment in that process unsettling, honest, sometimes a little uncomfortable when everything looks uncertain. The shapes feel awkward, the values aren’t fully singing yet, and nothing is quite resolved. Walking back into my studio with memories of Spain still fresh on my mind, and of the 13 amazing, dedicated artists who shared this journey with me… this fierce blue heron is begging to emerge on the canvas and several commissions in que!! Thank you all for the love, encouragement, and wonderful support throughout our trip. It was truly spectacular…filled with beauty, laughter, growth, paintings, friendship, and inspiration around every corner. My heart is overflowing with gratitude.As I unpack my paints and memories, I’m already dreaming about the next adventures ahead.
