“One should always be asking themselves ‘What if I lost this? How much would it matter?’”

Wow, what a book…
Would specifically NOT recommend the audiobook for this one. I tried it.

This book was unique in any and every way possible. The main character is off her rocker… My flabbers are honestly ghasted over this one. Zero percent of the time did I ever know where this book was going or what could possibly happen next.

This book is raunchy and not for the closed minded. That said, I effin loved it.

“This is happening and my only option is to accept it. I cannot fight it. I can only move through it.”

Ouch. What a horribly annoying book. It was very neurotic of me to finish this out of pure spite considering how god awful I found just about everything about this book to be.

Sooo that seems harsh…

This book was the ultimate cliche in every sentence. It was so predictable. Just so corny… Cringey. Annoying characters.

I’ll drop a short quote below…

“I can’t tell if the plane is taking off or if I’m just feeling the high of learning I have a gal pal. Either way, I’m in the clouds.”

“It’s like fingernails scraping my skull when people complain about parents doing perfectly fine parental things.

They say perspective is everything.

I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by:
1. Ferdelle Capistrano for Georgette “Jet” Bright (Daughter)
2. Joy Osmanski for Lillian Wright (Mother)
3. Lee Osorio for Ryan Bright (Father)

I never really knew where this book was going but I was enjoying the whole entire ride. The ending felt powerful. Emotional book for sure.

“But if he hasn’t done anything wrong, why is he acting so guilty?”

Ahem, cough-cough, good luck keeping up with all of these characters and all of their lies. This book feels like a season of Desperate Housewives. Side note, that was such a good show!

So you have some neighborhood besties: Gwen, Aimee, and Lisa— who along with their husbands, each have their fair share of secrets. Heavy on the DECEPTION, BETRAYAL & REVENGE in this one!

Listened to the audio. It was good. That’s the review. (Second attempt bc instagram really said “Try again later. Delete.”

📸: My gorgeous foster Jada - I am already starting to feel the sting in my heart at the thought of her leaving. Fostering her was a slippery slope because it was love at first sight. She is truly a gem.

“Don’t try. Do.”

If you’re new here, I’m not a summary-of-the-book type of reviewer because the author already does that for you and who better than them to provide it. On my page— I have read these books and these are just my thoughts— no spoilers!

The vibe of this book was core- early ‘00s- Taylor Swift for me. Think neighborhood kids, teenage crushes, secrets and drama, but then as we know, life happens and we all grow up. No one in life is immune to tragedy. And if you have ever grieved, you know there is no way around it. There is one way and it’s through. Except there’s no playbook for how to get through the darkest days. Very oftentimes, the people we would expect to be by our side to support us, leave. Mistakes will be made.

✨forgiveness✨
A main theme of this book. Seems so basic. In the realm of complex grief, this is actually one of the most difficult principles.

✨addiction✨
Another major element of the book. It’s truly surreal to get a group of addicts together and recognize how much of their stories are the same but then all the ways they’re drastically different. Addiction comes in many forms and affects any gender, age, race, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status...

I listened to the audiobook which had dual POV / 2 narrators for the FMC Katie & MMC Tyler. I could relate to a lot of the emotions in this book. There was a unique sense of nostalgia.

Only snapped a couple pics because the reality sank in that our time together is only temporary. I love making memories with her. How can you look at her and not smile, laugh, and feel love? I am grateful for this chapter together until she finds a family who will love her like I do. 🥹 (yes, I’m crying!)

✨New release from Shari LaPena? Yes, please!

Checked all of my boxes! Unique plot, very suspenseful, and I really never had any good theories! I was stumped but also intrigued and “just really wanted to know!!” which made this an addictive audiobook. I devoured it quickly with no regrets.

January LaVoy narrated this one to perfection, as usual! ✨

There was “something” about the ending that I wish was different and obviously I won’t press into those details, but it will be obvious. I do think the author’s ending was realistic which I can appreciate.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tempted to just say that’s the whole review!

This is a big girl weighing in at over 500 pages but it goes by so quick. Some of the pages are illustrations which are very fun! This took me way too long to finish but I’ve been on the go, staying busy, and not much down time to relax and read.

Book 2 in the “Bay Area Players” series— & it held a unique PLOT for me in a lot of ways, but it also had a great mix of nostalgia and relatable content.

The focus is on Bennett and Bower who grew up together and share a mutual connection: Bower is Bennett’s sister’s bff. Not sure what your personal experience is with your siblings or hooking up with their friends or how that would go but…. Food for thought, amirite?

Baby Bennett is all grown up now, in the MLB, and has the body and muscles to show for it. And the money too but I digress. My brother didn’t have any friends like that but… mmm

I am readyyy for Book 3 but it doesn’t come out until July 2027. Moment of silence. Ughhh.

Hot off the press! Published 4Aug2026 ~ Historical Fiction

I gave the audiobook a sample and loved the narrator: Angel Pean — phenomenal job on making this story really come to life!!

Setting: 1944-1965 “Great Migration” era // Starts out in Louisiana and hits all of the high notes from voodoo to beignets and jambalaya to racism and the story continues on to LA, California.

HF is one of my favorite genres because I genuinely love learning about new things. And as an animal lover, I appreciated the random pigeon knowledge that was dropped in this book.

This is a “family saga” and has an emphasis on cousins and aunt/niece which is always a special connection for me. There is a very big…. LIE…. that is a major point of contention. No spoilers here but I don’t know what I would do if I was in this situation. I really don’t. And anyway, it’s always easier to say what you would have done if you were in someone else’s situation but I digress.

I would be remiss not to drop a small crumb of a hint about the LGBTQ aspect of this story which is immensely woven into the plot. I know there is still a lot of stigma even today but I have to believe that we have come a lot further than where we used to be.

Hype book about being a “trad wife” — gave it a listen. It was long. It was good. But I don’t have a clue what happened at the end.

I googled after I finished and now I might be more confused. Around 40% in, I felt very, very strongly that I knew what the ending would be. I was wrong. But… yeah… hmm

I was a bit mentally distracted bc my sweet foster Petunia who was rescued by @fbar.nc has left for her trial to adopt to a wonderful home. I couldn’t wish for a better fit but her absence stings. She was with us for 54 days but who was counting… Her best friend Bianca is pretty down in the dumps, but my wonderful husband spoiled her today and took her on a truck ride and hike. Little Girl is doing her best to cheer up her mini too.

It’s not official yet but NGL- I’m kinda proud to add another foster to my resume. My fail rate is kinda high… 🥸

“I can just spend my money however I want”

The title and cover caught my attention and I was sold. However, this audiobook found me during a post PTO period of chaos and mayhem. I was turned off in the first 30 minutes when I realized there are multiple POVs and 1 narrator. I really enjoy different voices for that style. I felt like I couldn’t keep up and didn’t know what was happening. I restarted the book more than once bc I wasn’t retaining anything. I had trouble understanding where this story was going.

The narrator: Marin Ireland — so talented, is well known for many productions including Remarkably Bright Creatures 🐙 She does a great job and I loved the familiarity of her voice.

For me, the second half of the book was much better at keeping my attention. There are some interesting perspectives and topics.

One of my “favorites” — how life changes after kids. No, I don’t have kids so I guess I can’t comment. Or can I? Just because I didn’t choose to have children, doesn’t mean I can’t comprehend the sacrifices that parents make for them. Remember, I had parents once… Think I was easy? Doubt it. I had the body of a woman by age 10; Dancing around to Hit Me Baby One More Time. My poor father…

I’ve witnessed family & friends welcome their babies and have been on the sidelines cheering them on. Ever think that maybe I DO see just how difficult parenthood can be and how clearly obvious it is that e v e r y t h i n g changes?

While I live my best life and embrace this chapter of animal rescue, I know people are curious. “Can they not have kids?” And there’s a lot I could say about it. But I also want to be respectful of couples who face fertility challenges. Some of these topics are discussed in the book in addition to sexuality, infidelity, family trauma, ADDICTION (and not just drugs/alcohol)!

I wasn’t… until you.

This was a wholesome but steamy romcom & I loved it!!

Shout out to my cuzzo for mailing me this book with a bunch of other cute goodies. ILY! This book was a big girl at 581 pages, but it was a quick read with super addicting short chapters-dual POV (Graydon & Maple).

I put a dent in it traveling to Minnesota and home to NC. Then finished it on my trip to Seattle where I met up with my cousin who gifted it to me so that was super cool — and wait, there’s more! She gifted me Book 2!! 💖💖

While traveling, I visited a few bookstores but I have myself on a book ban and I was a good girl! Soo my next read::: JUST FOR THE PLOT
