No post can do Gloria Steinem justice, but here’s my heartfelt dose of gratitude: Her involvement in the women’s movement kicked into full swing in 1970–mу birth year. Like her, I was a magazine journalist (When I was an intern at Sassy, our office was down the hall from her Ms magazine). I love men and relationships, but never felt compelled to get married and have children. And like her, I changed my mind about getting married later in life, with her words ringing in my ears. Gloria did it at 66, saying, “I hope this proves what feminists have always said - that feminism is about the ability to choose what’s right at each time in our lives.” I got the chance to meet her—and thank her—when I was an inaugural mentor in the Gloria Steinem media mentoring program at Rutgers. She was brilliant, funny and incredibly stylish. She dedicated her life to elevating women’s visibility and equality. We have a stronger voice because she used hers so tirelessly. May she rest in peace—and in power. by @michprom

I was rapt by the current exhibit at @farnsworthmuseum. By Design: The Worlds of Besty James Wyeth explores how the environments Andrew Wyeth’s wife created are inextricably linked to his most prominent work. She was the interior designer and creative architect of their many homes in PA and Maine, restoring and adapting historic dwellings, such as a one-room schoolhouse she turned into a dining room. The shells and salvage she collected, including an oar that appears in several stunning Wyeth pieces, was a consistent source of inspiration for her husband. Throughout history, many women’s creative labor has been absorbed into men’s artistic reputations— it’s nice to see such a beautiful nod to one significant contribution. It runs until the end of the year, if you happen to be traveling through mid-coast Maine. taken in Rockland, Maine by @michprom

Over the last couple of years, her middle-aged female algorithm has kept journalist Michele Promaulayko (@michprom) highly informed on every aspect of the facelift-getting process. So when she signed on to take care of her friend @robinlevineshobin right after she got the surgery, she thought she knew exactly what to expect. But it turns out FaceliftTok and a few dozen Instagram reels hadn’t told the whole story. At the link in our bio, Promaulayko shares the nine things that surprised her most—from the reality of recovery expenses to the truth about the pain.

The NYC party for Single Girls by @johnsearles brought so many former Cosmo editors and contributors together. What a blast! The novel is based on the 1960s magazine world and inspired by Helen Gurley Brown, Cosmo’s OG EIC. When I joined Cosmo (the first time) in late 1999, John was on sabbatical writing his first book— and I was given his office! That could have been a non-starter for us, but we became BFFs, working side by side for many years under the fabulous @katewhite_author — and with so many other talented creatives— building one of the most successful media brands of all time. It was thrilling. I left to run Women’s Health, but when I returned to Cosmo as the Editor in Chief, one of the first things I did was bring John back. There is nobody better to write a novel inspired by the trailblazing women of that era. Special shoutout to @loveshackfancy founder @becknyc and @mccoolstyle (two former Cosmo fashion editors) for hosting. Check out the book— it’s the perfect summer read. Like Biebs said, The Sun is Out Hallelujah! Perfect Spring Saturday with my favorite flower child/farmers market maven @michellekgagnon. The energy of renewal was everywhere. What a joy to spend rare time with a friend, eating nourishing food (prepared for me), and sipping wine in a garden that’s finally coming back to life after such a long fucking winter. An abundance of beauty. I’m grateful for it. taken in Grownyc Greenmarket by @michprom

My friend/building mate/beauty transformer @joeyhealybrows whipped my sedentary brows into shape, and I wasn’t even sore the next day. Symmetrical brows = affordable facelift. 😆Thank you, Joey! I feel like I really have my shit together now. 🫶🏼 taken in Joey Healy by @michprom
