Ridiculously proud of this six-page interview @residencenl. A beautiful piece about the ins and outs of my business, but also about the things behind it: my child’s perspective, my family, my dreams, my insecurities, and my addiction to my work.

Did I mention it’s SIX whole pages? :)

Thank you @residencenl @carleinkieboom and team! ❤️

Yes!! We are finally making them again. Smiley plates. We make them all by hand. We press black clay into white clay. (So they aren’t painted and are all different.) And we are making 100 this time. You’ll just get one sent to you because you can’t choose :)

This is truly a crazy month. Today was the last day of @pan_amsterdam. Yesterday we had a fantastic opening @edwinpelser. Tomorrow, my work is going with @newhouse.gallery to @affordableartfairde. And in two weeks my studio will be open. We’ll be selling lots of small pieces we’ve made especially for that day. Everyone is welcome!! (people ask me that, if everyone can come) And for now, I’ll go to bed early, without any wine.

Commissioned work. 🫛🥦🫒

So much fun to make! For the wall behind a stove, I made these custom tiles from white and green clay, with a vegetable print.

And of course, there was some leftover clay from this as well. So, during my open studio, I am selling two small panels with this print.

The Tompoes is one of my artworks that passes through the most hands, because there are so many different steps. First, it is made from clay, but that clay needs to dry for weeks, and we often have to turn the tompoes so that it dries nicely and evenly. Then the tompoes is fired for the first time. Next, we glaze the tompoes 7 layers that need to dry between each layer. Once they have 7 layers, we fire the tompoes again. Then the sides of the tompoes are done, but that is the baker’s secret. After this, we fire it again, and then I check if they are beautiful enough.. otherwise, they need to be touched up and put back in the kiln. And I haven’t even mentioned when we make a tompoes with whipped cream. This process has led me to decide that I need to raise the price of the Tompoes. This is the only way to keep it alive. Also, we can no longer make as many as usual. I am selling them now in a batch of 20 pieces and the first one will be online in a few weeks. Thursday, October 22 at 8:00 PM. by @mickeyphilips.nl

Something a bit different from all those fish flying around your ears on the gram right now. But let’s stay in the water. A duck looking for food, on a client’s table in the garden.

(Specially made for them outdoors, so if you have work of mine, don’t just put that in the garden..)

It’s not really my thing to share very personal things here... but today is a day I haven’t felt like dealing with for a very long time. Because 20 Father’s Days ago today, my father passed away. I’ve always had the feeling that he sort of chose that day, because the four of us were home all day then.

And 20 years ago is a negative milestone for me. Because 20 years with him and 20 years without my father suddenly hurts more then last year..

I am sharing this because when you are 20 and you lose your father... it is something.. and because I also believe that what happened to me when I was young has a lot to do with my work. That I do everything I can to do what makes me happy. That often when I create something, I think of him. That I would call him to tell him what I’ve come up with this time. Or to say that entrepreneurship actually suits me well and that I got that from him. Or that Robby looks so much like him, with the same warm hands, the same curls, the same jokes, and the same name.

P.S. Just a quick photo of lots of ‘sardines’ drying to distract you from this dramatic Instagram post. by @mickeyphilips.nl

After months of nothing but work, yesterday was my last event. Well, last... but now hopefully a quiet summer.
But back to last night: It was truly fantastic. Because with 3 other artists and the best art caterer, we had a really great evening. Art was created with every course. And I was the aperitif and they made this fantastic little fish dish. Thank you @de_galerie_rotterdam ❤️ and all the lovely people who came to watch, listen, and eat :)
