Thanks @thenisaward for sharing your talents with our class! I was tired of voice acting coaches saying you needed to do things to be successful, such as be a good actor, and get your head out of booth, but not telling you HOW to do those things. Not telling you HOW to make a script interesting and bring it to life. Most were just telling you how to SAY the lines, instead of teaching you how to act and create multi-dimensional characters on your own when they are not there to direct you. And a lot of teachers don't push you to be better. Either because that's as good as they think you can be, or they don't want to do the work to push you. Because it is a lot of work on my end to push you to the next level. But it's work I love doing! I believe no one should ever reach a plateau in their skills. And I want to see all of my students have thriving careers.

If you want to have a thriving career in voiceover, then you have no time to waste! This training is invaluable. The longer you wait, the longer it will be before you are the actor you need to be to be successful in this business.

Go to Mic-Up-VO.com to sign up for a class. Wednesday and Sunday Class for May have a waitlist, so get on the list now. There are still spots available in Monday Class for May, so this is an excellent time to jump in. Spots only become available when current students give up their spot. Most of my students stay in class for at least 6 months if not years because there is no other workout like it out there.

🎙️✨ Voice acting isn’t just saying the line — it’s moving through it.
In this session with @sorshamorava , I coached her to add vocal movement — imagining the character’s physicality, the blocking, the action the animators will eventually bring to life. 🌀

When your voice suggests movement, you give animators ideas. You inspire the storyboard. You become part of the performance beyond the mic. 🎬🎨

👉 Don’t just read… act it, move it, live it.

TOMMY ESTRADA BOOKED! 🎉

Tommy is incredibly talented, genuinely kind, and an all-around wonderful person to work with. We could not be happier to celebrate his booking as Mr. Smee in Peter and Tink!

This is such a perfect role for him. Tommy brings so much warmth, humor, and heart to his work, and we cannot wait to hear what he creates with this character.

Peter and Tink began many years ago as a stage play written by creator Chelsea Krause. Rather than retelling how Peter defeated Hook or focusing on the Darling children, the story takes us all the way back to when Peter meets Tinkerbell for the very first time.

It is set so early, in fact, that Captain Hook still has both hands. 😁

Congratulations, Tommy! We are so proud of you and cannot wait to hear you bring Mr. Smee to life. 💛🎙️

“SAD” is not a playable choice. It is only an emotional label.

When voice actors try to sound sad, they often reach for the same familiar choices: slowing down, softening the voice, adding a shaky breath, or pushing the emotion so casting knows exactly what they are supposed to feel.

But real sadness has far more colors.

It can become quiet, angry, numb, guarded, distracted, funny, helpful, or determined to keep functioning. It can move through several of those behaviors in a single scene.

The more specifically you understand what hurts, why it hurts, and what your character is trying to do with that pain, the less you have to perform the emotion.

Let the moment affect you before you say the words.
Casting is your first audience. Give them something real to feel.

Joevanny joined Mic-Up! this mont. And in his very first month of class, he has already received his first callback!

A callback is an exciting sign that your audition connected and casting wants to hear more. We are so proud of the work Joevanny has been doing, the choices he has been making, and this huge first milestone in his voice acting journey.

Congratulations, Joevanny! This is only the beginning. 💛🎙️

Ready to strengthen your auditions and work toward more callbacks—and bookings—of your own?

August Animation + Video Game Voice Acting classes are now enrolling. Only six actors per class.

A believable voice acting audition is built before you ever say the first word.

Actors often spend all their time deciding how the line should sound: the emotion, the character voice, the pacing, the emphasis. But none of those choices will feel fully connected unless you know what you are responding to.

The imagined moment before gives your first line a relationship, a reason, and a point of view. It affects your breath. Your timing. Whether you interrupt, hesitate, soften, attack, or struggle to get the words out.

That is what makes an audition feel like we dropped into the middle of a living scene—not like an actor pressed record and began reading.

This is one of the simplest ways to bring more specificity and emotional truth to animation and video game voice acting auditions.

Do you create a moment before you record, or do you usually begin with the first line on the page?

STOP READING. ACT.

What kind of voice actor are you based on your zodiac sign? ✨🎙️

This one is just for fun… but also maybe a little too accurate.

Whether you are an all-in Aries, a grounded Taurus, a character-chameleon Gemini, an emotional-truth Cancer, a scene-stealing Leo, or a script-detective Virgo, every actor has strengths they can lean into and habits they may need to watch.

Animation and video game voice acting is not just about having a cool voice. It is about making specific choices, understanding the scene, listening, committing, and bringing a real character to life behind the microphone.

So find your sign, read your reminder, and tell me if it called you out.

Comment your zodiac sign below — and send this to the voice actor in your life who needs to see theirs.

Happy July 4th from Mic-Up! 🎆

Real fireworks happen when you stop trying to sound emotional and start feeling something real.

Audiences can hear the difference between an actor demonstrating emotion and an actor truly living through the moment.

The goal is not to manufacture a sound.

It is to understand what is happening, let it affect you, and allow the voice to follow.

That is what lights the fuse on a performance casting remembers.

July voice acting classes start July 6, and a few spots are still available.

A memorable voice acting audition does not sound like someone reading a script. It feels like a real scene.

There is a person underneath the character voice.
There is something happening beneath the words.
There is a clear point of view, an emotional life, and a reason each line needs to be said.

When that starts to click, the characters become deeper, the choices become more specific, and the audition stops feeling manufactured and starts feeling alive.

That is what we work on in Mic-Up’s live online animation and video game voice acting classes.

You will work on character development, script analysis, stronger acting choices, emotional truth, cold reads, and audition technique, with individualized coaching in a class of only six actors.

July classes begin July 6.

Monday All Levels
July 6, 13 & 20
5:30–8:00 p.m. PT

Sunday All Levels
July 12, 19 & 26
4:00–6:30 p.m. PT

Just a few more days to sign up.

Most actors ask, “How do I sound?” because the voice is the easiest part of a voice-over audition to hear and judge.

But a strong animation or video game audition usually starts before you ever say the first line.

Ask yourself:

What just happened before this scene?

What do I need from the other person?

How do I feel about them?

What am I afraid might happen?

What changes for me during the scene?

Those answers influence your pace, pauses, emphasis, reactions, humor, tension, and emotional journey. Not because you planned how to deliver every word, but because you understand the person and the moment well enough to respond truthfully.

That is where memorable acting choices come from.

The next time you work on a voice acting audition, spend less time trying to manufacture the perfect sound and more time doing the script analysis that gives your character something real to think, feel, and fight for.

What question helps you unlock a scene?
