More contracts did not mean more pay.

Upwork’s 2026 data showed generative AI and creative-production contract starts rising 90%, while earnings per contract fell 13%.

More complex AI-augmented work moved in the other direction, with earnings up 45%.

At MidwestCon, @kailalove.ai and @mega_ultra_10_thousand made that split practical. Attendees created work, tested what they could distinguish and repriced their services on paper.

A task can change faster than the job title around it.

At MidwestCon, Brandon Knight, Robert Gordon and @tochivy talked from work already touched by automation, with Quintin Hutchinson moderating.

The session stayed close to what happens after a workflow changes: what remains human, what skill gets funded next and what happens to the entry-level path.

Attendees wrote those decisions into a 2027 readiness list.
