🚨 IMA CANADA CONDEMNS PASSING OF BILL C-12 IN SENATE 🚨

A new immigration bill threatens to expand surveillance, restrict asylum claims, and give the government new powers to cancel permits and immigration status.

These measures will disproportionately impact migrant workers, refugees, undocumented migrants, and international students—communities already facing systemic precarity and exploitation.

We assert that migration is not a crime. Migrants are workers, families, and community members who sustain the social and economic life of this country.

📢 We demand:
• Protection for refugees and asylum seekers
• An end to policies that criminalize migration
• Permanent status for all migrants
• Full labour and social rights regardless of immigration status

🤝 The International Migrants Alliance – Canada Chapter stands in solidarity with migrant justice organizations across the country resisting these repressive policies.

🔥 Organize. Educate. Mobilize.
Join our next April All Members & Allies Call to hear updates on our 2026 Migrants’ Tribunal in Canada, learn about the history of Permanent People Tribunals, mobilize for the ILPS Assembly and against CANSEC in Ottawa, and discuss upcoming lead-up events to May Day. Stay tuned! by @migrantecanada

Migrante Canada Statement of Support for the Nationwide Transport Strike in the Philippines | March 20, 2026

We, overseas Filipino workers and members of Migrante Canada, stand in solidarity with transport workers in the Philippines who have launched a nationwide strike against escalating oil price hikes.

Even while we are far from home, we feel this crisis deeply.

Every increase in fuel prices drives up the cost of food, transportation, and basic goods—placing greater pressure on our families who rely on our remittances to survive. What transport workers face on the roads, our families endure in their daily struggle to make ends meet.

This is not just a transport issue, it is a national crisis affecting the entire Filipino people.

We recognize that this crisis is rooted in a system that forces millions of Filipinos to leave the country in search of work. Labour export has become a survival strategy for a government that has failed to build a self-reliant economy. Now, rising oil prices further expose this dependence, as families are squeezed while corporations and oil cartels continue to profit.

We also condemn the imperialist wars and military aggression that drive global oil price instability. These conflicts do not only devastate nations—they ripple outward, worsening economic conditions in countries like the Philippines and deepening the conditions that force migration.

As migrants, we reject a system where:
Workers are displaced from their homeland
Families are separated for survival
And crises are passed onto the backs of the poor

We call on the Marcos Jr. administration to act urgently and decisively:

Roll back oil prices immediately
Remove VAT and excise taxes on petroleum products
Provide subsidies to transport workers and affected sectors
Ensure a living wage for all workers
Repeal the Oil Deregulation Law
We echo the call for an independent foreign policy that prioritizes the welfare of the Filipino people, not foreign military interests.

From Canada and across the globe, we raise our voices with transport workers in the Philippines.

Your struggle is our struggle.
Your fight is our fight. by @migrantecanada

MARY JANE VELOSO IS FREE! A TRUE WIN FOR THE PEOPLE AMIDST WIDESPREAD GOVERNMENTAL NEGLECT OF LABOUR TRAFFICKED OFWS

16 years since Mary Jane was arrested in 2010 for alleged drug trafficking in Indonesia after being handed a suitcase with heroin by her illegal recruiter, she has finally been granted pardon on September 24th 2026 by President Marcos Jr.

Yet despite the praise the president is receiving, the truth is that Veloso should have been granted absolute pardon years ago, but the Philippine government through the consulate failed to show up for her in critical moments of her case that would’ve asserted herself as a victim of labour trafficking and exempt her from criminality. All of the successes of her case have been mostly due to surmounting international pressure advocating for her release.

Nearly 10 thousand Filipinos leave the country everyday for better opportunities only to be caught in labour trafficking schemes that force them into exploitative arrangements without status, such as The Promise Land Consultancy and Link4Staff.

Mass labour export and temporary labour import create the perfect conditions for malevolent labour traffickers, expedited by the Philippines’ Labour Export Program and the Canadian government’s Bill C-12 that satisfies the need for an army of cheap labourers.

As OFWs, we must not fully rely on governmental structures that neglect us, but assert and fight for our rights through mobilizing and organizing against the true conditions that cause them.

Not another Mary Jane! Not another Flor!
End labour trafficking!

WATCH | SO ANO NA?!

Last week, Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. delivered his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA), highlighting his administration’s so-called accomplishments and “promises”.

Listen as people’s organizations and progressive groups in Toronto, including @anakbayancanada, @bayan_toronto, and @migrantecanada, debunk the administration’s so-called achievements and expose the real state of the nation.

In this episode, we talked about the flood control corruption scandal, PAX Silica, agriculture, education, the oil crisis, the effects of the U.S.-Israel aggression against Iran, and the plight of overseas Filipinos. by @migrantecanada

Release Filipino-American activist Christina Pasion! Surface Binay Serrano!

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Canada (BAYAN Canada) strongly condemns the illegal arrest of Filipino-American community organizer Christina Pasion and Indigenous activist Binay Serrano of the Mangyan-Buhid tribe on July 30, 2026 in Cabuyao, Laguna.

The arrest and red-tagging of Christina and Binay reveals a longstanding pattern of the Philippine government responding with violence to the genuine calls of the Filipino people for land, food, and rights. The Marcos regime would rather intensify militarization, persecute Indigenous peoples defending their land, and sell-out the country through Pax Silica, than address the worsening poverty and establish national industry.

Moreover, the continued black propaganda against Christina further reveals the vilification of overseas Filipinos who wish to go home and serve the people.

BAYAN Canada clamors for the immediate release of Christina Pasion and the surfacing of Binay Serrano. We further demand an immediate, impartial, and swift investigation into the incident.

We call on all progressive and democratic forces in Canada to strengthen the call to end militarization in the countryside and to continue campaigning to junk the fascist state instruments of the NTF-ELCAC and NAP-UPD.

Free Christina Pasion!
Surface and free Binay Serrano!
Militar sa kanayunan, palayasin!
Labanan at wakasan ang pahirap, korap, at pasistang rehimeng US-Marcos!

*edit* as of Aug 2, 2026, Binay has been surfaced and held in custody by state forces. We call for both Binay and Christina to be immediately released! by @migrantecanada

Tell the Minister: My name is ___ and I live in ___. I'm calling for you to stop the deportation of Toby Rempillo, an active member of the Filipino community in Alberta who has been issued a deportation order by CBSA. Toby is at risk of harassment and terror-tagging if he is deported back to the Philippines because of his human rights advocacy and because he has spoken out against the unscrupulous company that illegally recruited him to come to Canada. I ask you to take immediate action in your capacity as Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship to respect Toby's human rights and let Toby stay in Canada.

Migrante BC condemns the arrest of 51 protestors–including three paralegals and 13 minors– during the People’s State of the Nation Address.

On Monday July 27th, more than 15,000 protestors across sectors and from various progressive organizations gathered along Commonwealth avenue in Quezon City to oppose Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address with their own People’s SONA, exposing the true state of the Filipino people who are being used as collateral in US-backed wars, face labour exploitation and contractualization, are being displaced by extractive mining projects and environmental plunder, and are forced abroad as Overseas Filipino Workers with precarious status and no protections to quell economic crises all over the globe.

In response to the protest, the Philippine National Police deployed around 22,000 forces across Metro Manilla, nearly half stationed in Quezon City. While the arrests and use of force were a response to “vandalism” and the “wearing of balaclavas”, videos were shown of PNP officers pulling protestors from the crowd seemingly without reason and harassing the elderly, amongst other violent acts. The repression of the people by the state proves what we already know: the Marcos Jr. regime does not truly care for the people.

We reiterate that the people’s anger is just when the government does nothing while Filipinos starve, and are used as cheap disposable labourers.

As migrants, the underclass of the working class, Marcos Jr. does nothing but smile and shake hands with the very Prime Minister who is treating migrant workers like criminals and fugitives, deporting 400 migrants per week and shutting down programs for caregivers all whilst using Filipinos to recover key sectors of the Canadian economy.

Join Migrante BC and other national democratic and progressive organizations calling for the release of the SONA 51 and the end of state terror!!
