A WORD. People have been trying to "figure me out" for years, but I don't have to pretend to be anything to anyone: I'm ALREADY blessed. I have ALREADY secured the starring role in a show that has lasted much, much longer than I expected it to... so why change to impress others now? I am satisfied with imperfectly-perfect ME. I simply savor every episode, good or bad, and pray we keep getting picked up for new seasons: You should too. Blessings, IG fam! 🙏🏾

(1/2) Sup, IG! I was watching a soccer game on a balmy summer evening surrounded by peers a few weeks ago when suddenly it REALLY dawned on me: this is it. Wow. My "conscious uncoupling" with higher education has begun, and the divorce papers are being drafted. Will I miss it? Sure. Thankfully there's a whole world out there to see... order my steps, God. 🙏🏾🤙🏾

Disclaimer: I take IG Seriously (and I know I'm CORNY 😂😂... you don't have to remind me). I simply feel that you don't cross paths with people (on social media or otherwise) by chance.

I just scrolled through the accounts of the people I first followed when I started IG (2012-2015) and felt a bit sad. As is typical IG behavior, people from many walks of life invited me, another faceless photographer + well-wisher, into their social media lives. I cheered from the sidelines for people who finally graduated after years of academic stress + burnout, started new careers, restored + rebranded themselves after years of addiction, finally left abusive relationships, constructed their self-esteem from scratch, switched professions, bagged dream jobs, achieved their goal weights, won bodybuilding competitions, cheated death, overcame life-threatening illnesses, moved to amazing new places, grew families, got married..... and then POOF.💨 Some of my favourite accounts haven't posted anything since 2015/2016. To those people: I hope you're doing well (living life to the fullest), and I really hope the blessings are FLOWING for you because I saw you fight through your own personal struggles and come out the other side STRONGER than ever. For that I have IMMENSE respect, and you DESERVE success in whatever is next.
Sending good vibes through the ether.

To borrow a phrase from one of my uncles: I spent this summer moving mountains (from my plate). 😂

1. Classic Chicken & Shrimp Fried Rice with all the trimmings (Spice Level 4) - BODHI (Thank you to London + Parker for their recommendation)
2. Chicken Empanadas - Livery (Downright flavorful - Another London + Parker collaboration)
3. Old Fashioned Prime Rib - The Keg Steakhouse (They don't make Prime Rib like this down South.)
4. The Omelette You Can't Refuse (w/ side potatoes) - Café Patachou (Recommendation courtesy of London + Maddie)
5. Fried Chicken Legs / Wings - Indi's
(I like my chicken CRISPY - perfect frequent late night bite - Edison's recommendation)
6. Breakfast Arepas - Arepas Indy Food Truck
(Can't go wrong with Bacon, Eggs, Cheese, and Sausage in a soft, flaky Venezuelan Arepa)

(3/9) Why Aren't You Smiling?

Jhene Aiko's "W.A.Y.S" contains an alchemy that remains in my mental toolbox whenever I'm working through something. I speak for everyone when I say we're tired of seeing our talented, smart, hard-working, overthinking, high-achieving friends depressed and held back by their own internal struggles.

"If there's one thing that I learned
While in those county lines?
It's that EVERYTHING takes time." Your time is not God's time / reality.

That constant, cyclical struggle between your timeline and HIS timeline / reality is where people lose their minds / become frustrated because people look to their left and right. Pride gets involved. Don't be dismayed: it's a human response and happens to everyone. For some, that frustration may last many years. For others, a season. However, the struggle ends when you realize much is beyond your control and you run your OWN race. Suddenly, life gains an air of ease again. Take it one day at a time, and thread those good days together.

I WANT EASE FOR ALL OF YOU.

TL:DR? Keep working hard, put your head down, run the race, don't shortchange yourself, try new things, come up for air occasionally to reflect on what is working and what has not worked, do at least one thing that brings you joy on a bad day, surround yourself with those unafraid to pour into you, pour into others and celebrate those around you, and TRUST YOUR GUT. Everything will turn out fine.
