This is tough to write… rest in peace Oliver Martin. I’ve always looked back fondly on the times we spent together on and off stage. Wow what a force you were! Your guitar playing was like watching someone wrestle an alligator and win, somehow all with an elegance and grace. Thanks for Magma and Pentangle… There’s so many times your dry wit and humour had us all in fits of laughter, and we still laugh about them today. Our last show together was SXSW, we were the last to leave the stage, causing as much chaos and noise as we could - we didn’t want it to end. There’s so much more I could say… you were one of a kind. You will be missed. by @mikefrankdrums

May I present to you ‘Save The Rainforest’. Back story:
I was commissioned by House Slaughter Films ( @rancho_mirage_film ) to write the soundtrack to their upcoming film ‘Rancho Mirage’, that also required a song relevant to the time setting of the story (1992) which would play during the opening sequence on the main protagonists cassette player. Other than that I was given free rein, so I got thinking… Two prominent themes in the film were animals and @natgeo. As a kid growing up in the early 90s I remembered the Save The Rainforest movement and how big it was in popular culture, it was also the time of celebrity charity music groups like Live Aid and Band Aid. I thought the two ideas combined were hilarious and would give a lot of opportunity to have fun with the lyrics. To complete the ‘Band Aid’ lineup I called on a couple of friends; @velysia added a Cyndi Lauper esque pop vocal and @ajrstaples portrayed a Pavarotti style character telling the demise of all good things if we don’t act fast on saving the rainforest. I provided all other vocals and recorded all instruments.

Rancho Mirage is hilarious and was such a pleasure to work on. I’ll share more once it’s available.

Save The Rainforest is available to stream on Spotify, YouTube and other streaming platforms.

Rancho Mirage is being released on October 28th with its premier in San Francisco. If you’re in the area then tickets are available from the House Slaughter website. #shortfilm #composer #savetherainforest @tpeckk @rainforesttrust @rainforestalliance @rainforest_cafe taken in Rancho Mirage, California by @mikefrankdrums

The Grid Slayer soundtrack is now available for your listening pleasure. I had a tonne of fun making this soundtrack, the research phase forced me to listen to a lot of music I wouldn’t have otherwise listened to. I was also fortunate at the time to be involved with a lot of classical music recordings which I found really inspiring and helped shape a lot of the writing and overall sound. The musicians I met over that period of time became my ‘virtual musicians’ and I would imagine them playing the parts in the music I was making. Anyway I’ve divulged too much weirdness. If you do listen I hope you’ll enjoy it. Also check out the game on Steam! #composer #soundtrack #videogamesoundtrack #mediacomposer #gridslayer by @mikefrankdrums

Lock your doors, hide your kids. VR Man is coming... The great people at @houseslaughterstudios asked me to write the soundtrack to their latest film and it's finally getting it's premier on December 3rd. 80s Horror and @johncarpenterofficial music were a big influence throughout so I really made use of synths, distortion and a tonne of reverb. Several sampled instruments were created especially for this but one that stands out was a sampled drill that became a huge sometimes overpowering (in a good way!) bass which found it’s way onto nearly every track. This was also the first time I was asked to write music to a script rather than to picture as filming had not yet begun - it was an interesting approach but really gave the opportunity for imagination and understanding the characters. It was also great to hear that the soundtrack was played on set throughout filming to capture a vibe and for timings. The soundtrack is available now on Spotify - Search for V.R.Man!

It's hard to believe this film was made two years ago, it was such a joy to be a part of. The initial inspiration for the music was The Social Network soundtrack by Trent Reznor. Animation: @squeezedmedia
