I installed central air in my house last year with guidance from @cpm_a_team. We put the air handler in the second floor closet, with the intake sucking straight into the unit (no returns). I had the idea of making a louvered vent on the door, so I sacrificed the slatted parts form another door and sized them for the lower two panels (which I busted out). Central air is amazing… but a freshly stripped and stained door with these parts on them is icing on the cake. taken in West Philly Baby by @mikeharpring

One of the other cabin owners out on Nuchatlitz Island (on the west coast of Vancouver island) was asked by a friend of his in the Canadian Search and Rescue team (the top squad for this kind of work) if they could do a practice mission on their dock with their family. It was pretty incredible to watch, and great knowing that - in the most dire of circumstances (wrecked boat/critical condition) - we’d have an insanely skilled and professional team coming to help. taken in Nuchatlitz Park by @mikeharpring

Ay! It’s me, Harpy! I’m slowly emerging from the hyper manic work mode I’ve been in this past month to get the heck out of philly and go on tour with my dear old friends Matt and Ginger for a week. Our old buddy @jeffrosenstock asked us to come play this set of shows through the Midwest with his band - and we are thrilled to be doing it!

We’re making it back to places we haven’t been in many years, and one or two that we’ve never played. I put a fresh new coat of paint on the Sprinter so we’re riding in style, and we have a fun new tshirt WITH MY PROJECT CAR on it that a bloomington bud designed.

Anyway tell me about all the roadside attractions or swimming holes we should go to on this trip! by @mikeharpring

Classic Harpy before and after! I just wrapped up a staircase install for some clients in west philly who - like me - thought it was silly that the basement staircase was in the back of the house taking up valuable kitchen space when IT SHOULD’VE BEEN UNDER THE PRIMARY STAIRCASE FROM THE BEGINNING. Anyway, homeowner brendan was my helper through the process. We installed a staircase i special ordered from the supply house. Took care of structural work, framing, drywall, railing, finish work, aNd electrical relocation. Photo of the old death trap stairs for reference.

No lie - this work is EXHAUSTING/dirty/humbling - but it’s nice to have a change of pace and be on site more. And help nice clients make their house a little better.

Two years ago I shifted my focus away from residential construction and running teams of employees, and veered back toward custom shop carpentry - work that I could perform on my own, at my own pace. Around the same time, Matt from @middlechildclubhouse hit me up about helping to rework their dining room seating arrangements.

So! I got to work making an array of comfy banquettes… The green vinyl banquette was the first to go in. The striped sections came next - with Laura from @betsustudio providing the visual design framework for these. All made in my shop - shop drawings designed in Rhino… CNC’d and fabricated by yours truly, with the upholstery done by @goldenupholsteryphilly … it was fun working out the curved red oak elements using veneers. Also started working with Extreme Powder Coating for all the sheet metal toe kick, which is a sleek and clean finishing touch!

Now that I’ve wrapped these projects up, I’m working more home carpentry projects back into my schedule to keep things fresh…. But I’m always sniffing around for custom cabinetry and furniture projects for residential and commercial… 👀 #harpringdesigns #banquetteseating #customcarpentry #furnituremaking #curvedbanquette taken in Middle Child Clubhouse by @mikeharpring

I still make music your parents will hate! We < @olivinephl > recorded the songs for another EP last year up in Western Mass with @willdandy, which we’ll be putting out this year I hope (bands move at a glacial pace in your 30s and 40s).

We are playing a lot of these new songs at the Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art < @philamoca > on Thursday, Feb 19. With @star_funeral @ultralitealternative and @friendxhospital

Posting more 2025 work from @middlechildclubhouse !! … after being open for a few years, they realized their morning rush had people lining up to order by the pool table, all the way through the dining area. The owner, Matt, envisioned a solution that saw the pool table removed and some drop leaf tables added in to act as line dividers during the day and 6 top seating at night.

I came up with a design based on Matt’s concept, and worked out my own drop leaf hardware solution since I couldn’t find any hardware that worked with this style of table.

I used a fabrication company near Allentown to laser cut and bend the sheet steel components based off my vector drawings, but otherwise did all the other metal fabrication and carpentry work myself. Powder coated at Extreme Powder Coating. Red oak drop leaves because Middle Child is not ashamed to use red oak lol.

Oh yeah, I also spent 6 hours by my lonesome chipping up the tile from under the pool table and grinding the old mastic adhesive off and cleaning the hell out of everything because I wanted to make sure it got done right. turned out great!

I’ve been working with @middlechildclubhouse for the past year and a half, helping them rework various elements of their dining room areas. This past fall was primarily spent on their private dining room (a room you can rent for private parties).

The original setup had a banquette running down the back wall (in slide 9) which wasn’t an ideal use of space. We removed that I installed a run of floating cabinets down that wall, with continuous grain red oak cabinet fronts (with routed finger pulls) and a marble counter top from @angelosmarblephila

I designed, fabricated, and installed the U shaped booth at the end (with upholstery by Golden Touch), and used natural Forbo Marmoleum for the tables. Also made and installed a custom closet and coat rack. The space works a lot better now!

Using this 17-year-old thirst trap of me at our first philly show at Mollys Books in 2008 to promote our show at The Rotunda tomorrow - Monday 11/10/2025. (I am 27 in this photo fyi, though I DO look 17).

$12 at the door. Doors at 7:30, @pennydogband starts at 8. @goshupon in the prized middle slot. @wearegoodluck over at 10. In bed by 11. The way god intended. COME OR ELSE.

(Also included is current photo from nyc show to demonstrate that I look properly in my thirties now 😜 and a pic from our last show in philly two years ago with at least 53 Open Hands holding us up.)

This post is a celebration of collaboration and co-creation, DIY punk, and my 20+ years of friendship with my inspiring and talented friends Matt Tobey and Ginger Alford. It’s a note of gratitude for being able to make music together so many years ago (as @wearegoodluck ), travel the country and world, and add a layer to my identity that I am the most proud of. And then come back to it all again years later like no time had passed.

Except time did pass. 11 years of it - between our last show together and the initial rumblings of getting back together to play, with so much life and growing up in between. To say I’m fortunate to have another album out with Good Luck is an understatement — it is everything! There were no expectations, no grand schemes. We just wanted to hang out and write music again.

And now, here we are! Putting out an album full of songs we wrote for ourselves. Making each other smile and laugh in the process. And then gleefully jumping into the machine of this bizarre flailing music industry, not being limited by the arbitrary DIY rule sets defined in the late aughts (two music videos!? Press releases!? Comic book!? What!?). Doing so much of this ourselves, with the help of so many old and new friends. I’m so proud of what we accomplished, and excited to do more of it!

Thanks to Aaron at @laurenrecords for writing Ginger in@the first place about helping us, and for patiently walking us through the process. Thanks @bestsandwichever for being so fun and laid back to work with and for making this album sound incredible! Thanks @chris.mott.art for this beautiful art work packaging (you know I secretly wanted to make a box set with this design out of actual wood right lol).

I hope you like it. If not, that’s okay too! Because I like it! 💙 by @mikeharpring

Jumping onto the hype train for the @inkanddaggerofficial reunion later this month …

I took these photos at their Louisville show May 10, 1997. I was 16. I was a huge fan of Guilt - who Ashli (@snickle_fritz71) had previously played in, and was generally stoked at everything Initial Records was putting out at that time. It was an incredible show. Hadn’t yet honed my photography skills yet though. Also I remembered LOVING @botch_band and nineiromspitfire. Blew my impressionable mind!

If I’m not mistaken, their show with with Guilt at the Hoosier Valley rec center was also in 1997. Great band. @bodyhammer got to play with them too on their tour in 1998. Sean McCabe was a nice man to chat with in person and on AIM. #ripseanmccabe

Also putting it out to the universe that I’d gladly be Turned to get into one or all of their shows. Or maybe make a bunch of coffins for their stage entrance lol. #pleaseletmein @ink.and.dagger by @mikeharpring
