Hello friends. Next week @laandks is hosting a show at White Schoolhouse with @wearegoodluck, @cheeryband, and @ospree.band. I’d like to take a moment here to do that thing where I give you a very heartfelt and personal endorsement of this show, which, as tradition dictates, will be the Paul DeGeorge SHOW OF THE YEAR.

Good Luck is a band from Bloomington, IN. Their debut album, 2008’s ‘Into Lake Griffy,’ is one of those perfect records - the kind you used to make tape copies of for your friends and say, “You gotta hear this.” The CD has lived in my car continuously since 2008. It’s full of soaring, sing-along anthems and intricate, highly technical performances that somehow serve to create really catchy punk music. It’s still baffling to me and it’s a good reason the album still sounds fresh and innovative nearly two decades later. I’d probably argue that this record is one of the defining musical documents of the late 2000’s DIY scene and yet it still feels like a kind of lost gem. IYKYK. But I think more people should know about this album. It’s too good to stay secret. So – if you’re open to being influenced by another human and not an algorithm – I’d love to suggest that you take a moment in the next week to spin this one up as you drive around it. It’s a great summer listen: full of friendship, late night hang-outs, and long-distance love. Crank the windows down and sing loudly along with “Pajammin,” a perfect song that captures the incomparable joy seeing your friend’s bands playing in the basement.

If you like what you hear, then I’m sure you’ll feel compelled to dig into Good Luck’s other releases, 2011’s ‘Without Hesitation’ and 2025’s ‘Big Dreams, Mister.’ There’s not a dud in this band’s catalog and I hope you’ll give at least some consideration to becoming an obsessive Good Luck fanboy like myself. Go ahead and track down that 2010 demo and hear Ginger just absolutely go off on that cover of Prince’s “When You Were Mine.” Dig deep and read @dolphindegeorge’s 3-part time-traveling, fantasy adventure comic based on the band.

@_bodyhammer_ appreciation post: a strange thing has started to happen that I have gotten a few messages in the past number of weeks about Bodyhammer: strangers asking about recordings/releases, some from as far as Utah (who even knows where that is?), but mostly NYC.

1.) video from @noisepollutionlouisville , “Pauline” at what was then known as Crunch Zone in Louisville, KY- 2001? 2002?. My beloved Kramer bass that I bought from @manorastroman_official — that bootleg VU shirt! Had that dork had known that he’d work at the Chelsea Hotel as a middle aged dork, he might have been better behaved and lessa fuck up. Maybe.

2.) reunion show, 2022. So much fun. I kinda love being the clown and I had the hair for it at this gig. Thanks @nevernervous43

3.) should have a pirate at every show. The hug and Harpring dive plus protecting Dave’s bass was a swirl of emotions, self defense, and bass defense

4.) next reunion- I was soundin pretty good before kickin the cord outta the amp.

5.) tour 2000; baby Benton had already caught shit for my old “New York Fuckin City” shirt at a previous stop so was relieved that our next roadside adversary was just judging us on our appearance and hygiene

Love you, Bodyhammerers. Let’s do another show.

Come see Olivine playing at @philamoca later this month! How many bands is she in, you may ask? Does she even know?! Somewhere in the flat circle of time there's a thread that if you pull just right it will produce vibration that sounds so good it will drive you into a kind of madness that makes you seek it elsewhere in life, in friendships and arrangements and obsessive hours spent callousing your fingers while you wiggle the air like a dog wagging its tail. She loves music, folks!

And for your viewing pleasure, a pic of us with Will after our recording session at Dead Air Studio's about one spin around the sun ago.

i just gotta say it’s been one of the most fucked up, destabilizing and chaotic couple last few months of my life I’ve had in years and i would just like to ask for a formal submission of the last few months of my Saturn return if it has anything else to give me. Anyway shit sux life goes on and it’s weird to wake up in a place I don’t recognize and change is constant but the love I have for people in my life stays

Thankful for choosing me, for @wearegoodluck giving me a reason to love October 17th again, for @chris.mott.art creating stunning tour art, and for @themiserychick.tat making that art permanent.

A truly surreal moment to see @wearegoodluck in the year of our lord 2025. And it was everything I could have imagined that it would be.
