From Apple Tree Lane to the glass. 🍎🥂

Last fall, the farm team gathered bags of wild apples from our Apple Tree Lane. Those became the foundation for this year’s Apple Tree Lane Cider, created in collaboration with our friends at @doublehillcider and brought together with pear and quince for a dry, sparkling cider with plenty of character.

A cheers to the team behind it all, from the farm to the cellar and the glass, including Farmer Mikey and Sommelier Marie Pier, who have helped carry this project from one season to the next. 🥂

This year also brings a new look for Apple Tree Lane, with another beautiful label from our friends at @hoodsearle, the third in our series of Inn drink collaborations.

Good things grow here. 🌱

Long before something reaches your plate at the Inn, there’s a lot of work behind it. The Culinary Farm is a year round labour of planning, preparing and growing, with the summer season bringing the gardens to life and the farm team into full swing.

Together, they’re working toward a harvest of more than 300 varieties of fruits, vegetables and herbs, alongside the chickens, pigs and bees that are all part of the living farm ecosystem.

A heartfelt thank you to Head Farmer Kevin Petrie, the farm crew, our landscaping team and all the helping hands who care for this place throughout the year. Harlee, our four legged farm supervisor, has been overseeing operations, naturally. 🐾

Tasting sweet peppers grown in the Test Garden on this Zone 6 farm. 30 different varieties. A few scorching hot weeks this summer, a palliative amount of rain. Farmers, chefs, working together as our quest for the best flavour and texture continues. by @mikeledang

I've never gotten a tattoo with a deep and significant meaning before. They've all been cute fun artistic representations of my beliefs, ethos, and things that I like. But this one, this one has real meaning.

An echinacea drawn by my friend Dr. Cristina Allen, who passed away earlier this year. I know that in my life experience, there will be people that you connect with on so many levels, people so rare and special. Cristina was truly one of those spirits and beings. She was often joyful, thoughtful, mindful, both a student and a teacher. Her storytelling, connections to nature, looking to nature as a teacher, as a guide, food as love and medicine were some of our shared favourite things. She was one of the coolest and smartest people I've ever met. And her laugh, goddamn what a great laugh. And then on top of all that good shit, we were both Vietnamese Canadian 🇻🇳🇨🇦, sharing similar histories, stories of family, food, culture, and always looking to celebrate our motherland by way of cuisine, using locally farmed and foraged ingredients. So cherished was this friendship, I would end up often calling her chị, "big sister".

I truly wished I had more time with her, we would have had so many adventures. But I'm so grateful we connected, for the time we've shared, I am honoured to be considered a friend and will continue to carry your spirit forward. I love you and will miss you always, Cristina.

I’ve long maintained that when you’re in alignment with who you really are, expressing your values, and living your purpose, things seem to line up in ways that can seem almost magical. It’s not. It’s a function of resonance. But it sure is beautiful.

Souris, PEI seems to be a place where I have a resonant pull.

💫 One of my closest friends from the decade I spent in Halifax/my 20s, who was also a housemate and the person who introduced me to the Cafe I later owned and operated, is from Souris.
💫 One of my dance floor friends from my late 30s, when I finally had enough parenting support to nurture my core needs, is in his 6th or 7th season working at the Farm-to-Table farm at the Inn at Bay Fortune, in Souris.
💫 My closest mom-friend since my early 40s has been going to PEI in the summers her whole life, and her partents now have a summmer home there near... you guessed it, Souris.

It’s wild because Souris, PEI has a reported population of 1053.
That’s not a typo.
One thousand fifty three.

I’m so delighted to have been able to take my teens to visit.
And I’m thrilled that they had a blast.
