Thanks to a helpful follower @embeddedtechnologiesltd , I was able to fit a pressure activated led, tap to pay (Lantern pay), and door fob. All this while keeping the outer shell untouched so it doesn’t look any different than without all the tech. The issue I was having was the metal in the battery was detuning my nfc antenna. Slipping a thin piece of ferrite in between did the trick!

Here’s how I make my Sonics tap to pay. Keep in mind this is very simplified! I will do a in depth write up soon.

Every chip needs a coil of copper wire to act as an antenna, which enables it to communicate wirelessly by picking up the signal from the reader. You can strip the chip from any existing pay card by dissolving it in acetone. You’ll see the chip and wire in about 30min.

All chips run at 13.56Mhz, to tune your home made antenna, start with some magnet wire around 30awg. Start with one end of the wire and strip and solder to the chips original antenna pad, then measure 15 inches exactly. I would then loop the wire tightly to around 4 times, I would then test at a vending machine and touch the other end to the other side of the chip. The better tunned, the better range up to about an inch.

If it works, congrats! You’re the next Doctor, buy yourself a drink to celebrate and solder it together and put it into something cool, like a sonic screwdriver! Key point though, anything metal is going to block the signal so you might have to make new parts out of printed pieces like resin or pla.

DISCLAIMER: do at your own risk, and don’t use your actual credit card, I’d recommend getting a loadable one and trying that.

Whipped up this ring based on @stoopidleezard files in time for the finale of Lanterns! This ring is tap to pay and rfid enabled. While I don’t plan on selling my creations, I plan on making a tutorial of the tap to pay chip so yall can stick them in your own rings! Contact Jospeh if you want a ring as he sells prints of this amazing ring. Once I iron out the kinks, I’ll supply him with my modified files.

Wanted to show you what my Green Lantern Ring can do besides just light up. There is a tiny switch in the base of the ring that when making a fist I can activate the light inside. I also brought the same RFID tech I have in my previous sonic project over to the ring. These days I’m into wearable technology… iykyk.

I have the schematic for the wiring, I would love to team up with some of you talented designers to design a more accurate band than my current band as I suck at modeling cracks and textures.

Working on a Hal Jordan’s ring from the Lanterns show!
I modified @mysterymakers_3d wonderful model to accept an led and my same rfid chipset as my sonic screwdrivers.

For those wondering for finishing:
I used Fw Ink dark green for the gemstones
@tda_maker_supply chrome and golden god for brass inlay and ring. Then finished off with 2k clear.

Still working on fully stabilizing the tap to pay tech.

Some love it, some hate it. But the 15th Doctors sonic screwdriver is BY FAR my most complex, time consuming build ever. Boasting around 40 resin 3d printed parts, this sonic was designed from scratch in CAD over the course of a year. Each part was sanded and painted. The final chrome layering process took a few days alone.

For tech, each sonic has Bluetooth phone controls, speaker and ability to answer phone calls, rfid cloner/writer, universal remote, and of course, Sonic Pay.

How to crackle and weather a sonic screwdriver 101:
Warm up the Montana crackle white and chestnut brown paint in dehydrator (or warm water)

1️⃣Spray down a base coat of chestnut brown, be sure to have even layers
2️⃣Wait 45 minutes
3️⃣Spray the white crackle in thin even layers, the more uneven, the weirder the crackle
4️⃣Set it in warm dehydrator or warm oven over night
5️⃣To achieve the weathered look, I used cue tips dipped slightly in rubbing alcohol and slowly “painted” away the paint so the bare metal shown. I also used a flat head screwdriver to scrap away for more control.
6️⃣To get rid of the white tones and make it more “storm grey” I used Vallejo weathering powders (black, sienna, and umber) to get the desired grubbiness.
7️⃣Clear coat. I ised 2k clear in an airbrush to give it a more durable finish. Rustoleum or any other clear would work as well.
8️⃣Admire your work and show your friends!

Added a new one to my small fleet of working rfid Sonics, the famous 11th Doctors sonic. After sending the metal pieces to be modified by @theartisantoolsmith. I set to work modifying the chassis to fit my Sonic pay chip. The metal handle action was replaced by a pteg plastic piece so it didn’t block the signal. The bottom copper ring now is also resin. In testing with two pieces of copper surrounding the pay chip, it acted as a faraday cage so sadly that had to go. Inside the new green emitter rests a tiny rfid chip that can open any door that’s written to it, which coincidentally I can do with my 15th sonic. Fun project overall and I’m happy I didn’t have to modify much aesthetically to get it working.
