Creating the 2D sequences and flashbacks was one of my favorite tasks during the production of our senior film, co-directed with @nianimates_ !

We wanted our flashback sequences to feel hazy/dreamlike, and I had so much fun experimenting with the final look and leading our 2D processes. Please enjoy these breakdowns of some of my favorite shots!

Also, thank you so much @karnegiethomas for your help on the second flashback sequence! Your animations and craftsmanship are always beautiful!!! 😌

TW: Blood!

Here are some character sheets I created for our senior film project, co-directed with @nianimates_ ! During the filmmaking process, I took ownership of the 3D character/environment creation and look development of the film! Overall, it was a super intense learning experience, and I’m so proud of how our girls turned out 🙂‍↕️

And of course these characters wouldn’t be alive or posable without the help of our amazing rigging artist @alice_x16 !!! You’re the best and we wouldn’t have been able to do this film without you 🫶🫶

Programs used: ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter, and Blender (for render and material set ups)!

Also (maybe not so) secret fun fact: A big motif in our film is butterflies and symmetry, and I enjoyed adding this element to their designs, clothing, and hair! by @miklart06

We are animation students from California State University, Long Beach! We first met working on the CG animated group project "Nest.” And, with a shared love for 3D art and an interest in animating an action-focused film, we were inspired to continue our collaboration and co-direct our short film "Bloodline." With Nia specializing in 3D Animation and Mia focused on 3D Modeling/Compositing, we pushed our individual skillsets and explored new facets of CG animation.

We also wanted to introduce our composer, James Gaudi (@james.gaudi.music)! Without him, the film wouldn’t be what it is, and you should definitely check out our film to hear the whole score! You can also find it on Spotify (labeled "Bloodline"!) 🙂‍↕️🎵

The film follows two sisters who are forced to fight in a ceremonial duel to gain their family's honor. The film utilized tools such as motion capture, Maya, and Blender!

We (Mia and Nia :) are super excited to announce that our senior thesis film “Bloodline” will be posted on YouTube soon! We’re looking forward to sharing everything we worked on during our last year at CSU Long Beach. “Bloodline” was the culmination of what learned at Long Beach, and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of our team and peers!! Space friends, Part TWO of the Noah x Mia collab!! 🤖🌂

Hey this is Noah speaking now, Mia told me to write the description for this one. This track was actually the one I made first for our art swap, and the working title was “Ghosttep” because I imagined a ghost clomping around. Mia telepathically channeled this vision into a robot and slime buddy/scarf/arms walking with swagger down a multileveled catwalk, a significant improvement on the concept.

Nothing but gratitude to miklart06 for first pitching the idea of this art trade, it’s an absolute honor to accompany such extremely well crafted animation! 🫶

Back in February, I reached out to Noah with an idea to do an animation/music collab, where we both make a little piece, swap, and then create a little something inspired by the other’s creation. It’s been so fun seeing music be made for my silly blender pigeons.

I’m trying to do monthly blender projects (this one took a bit too long..) just something small and quick to learn the program and play around!
