YAYY here is a look into the 3D animation process for our thesis film, co-directed with @miklart06!!

I was lead for the 3D animation for Bloodline, and I was especially excited to develop my skills animating action sequences 🤺 For this specific scene the 3D animation transitions into a 2D flashback! It was a fun challenge to animate fight choreo and a “fall” that flowed into the 2D animation and style.

A fun fact about this sequence is our composer @james.gaudi.music, who is also a martial artist, helped choreograph and perform the move that I used as reference for the 3D animation here!

Thank you to my co-director and our amazing team for really making our girls and our film’s world come to life 🫶🏻

FILMMAKER SPOTLIGHT. Mia Lang and Nia Chantana

We are animation students from California State University, Long Beach! We first met working on a CG animated group project; with a shared love for 3D art and an interest in animating an action-focused film, we were inspired to continue our collaboration and co-direct our short film “Bloodline.” During the production of “Bloodline,” we focused on pushing our individual skillsets and exploring new facets of CG animation.

The film follows two sisters who are forced to fight in a ceremonial duel to gain their family’s honor. The film utilized tools such as motion capture, Maya, and Blender!

Our composer James Gaudi (@james.gaudi.music), is a Bob Cole Conservatory (CSULB) graduate with a rapidly expanding portfolio in scoring for all media. His credits include “A Woodcutter’s Promise”, “Time-Hunter”, and of course, “Bloodline”. Later this year, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra will premiere his work at the Thessaloniki Art and Music Summit. Currently based in San Diego, James balances his career in media scoring with his work as a professional trumpet performer and music educator.

Man…go check out the art of @miklart06 🥭

Wares: Plants
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Mia Lang is a CG artist/filmmaker. She loves bringing characters and stories to life while testing and expanding her skills in the 3D world. As both the director and artist, she is excited to present two films to the CSULB Animation/Pre-production screening. Outside of her work, Mia indulges herself with long hikes, plant care, and cooking.

The harvest is not over! Stay tuned to see which artist we pick next! 🍒🍋🫐

Choose Your Fighter! Senior BFA Gallery
20 April, 2025

It’s difficult for me to find the right words for how I feel right now... I find myself at the end of a journey which started almost a decade ago and I don’t know what to say

My time studying art has changed my life. Because of the knowledge that this is something you can do for a living, because of the realization of how challenging craft is, because of the amazing instructors I have met.
But especially because of the peer-mentors whom I have the privilege to call my friends.

Whether you’re close or far, let’s keep exploring, learning, and making art! The end.
