Up next is Mile Zero Dance’s Mainstage presentation MŌNAD | EBNFLOH (MONTREAL)!

October 23+24
7:30 PM
$35 General Admission/$30 MZD Member
Mile Zero Dance is located at 9931 78 Ave

Mōnad (from the ancient Greek monad, meaning ‘unit’) refers to the idea of a self-sufficient, unicellular organism containing multiple universes. A major player in Québec’s hip-hop dance scene, Alexandra ‘Spicey’ Landé embodies this Mōnad.

Inspired by this primary matter and energised by her symbiotic relationship with dance and hip hop culture, Spicey welcomes materials and sounds that form and deform, adapt and transform as they interact. How can we approach different incarnations of a single life? Mōnad is a vibrant consideration of the relationships in interrelated universes, questioning the notion of eternity.

Artistic Statement
Ebnflōh dance company was founded in 2015 by choreographer Alexandra ‘Spicey’ Land.. Its original language and aesthetic are rooted in Hip Hop dance and culture and developed through research and innovation.

The company is recognized for its involvement in the street dance community and its contribution to the development of the discipline and its dancers. It creates, produces and presents its work to large audiences, and is active in Canada and internationally. Ebnflōh was finalist for the 35th Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montr.al in 2020 with In-Ward.

Ebnflōh (pronounced Ebenflo) comes from the English expression “to ebb and flow” denoting action and reaction, rising and falling, the constant and everchanging movement of the tides. As with waves lapping up and receding, the company’s choreographic language is steeped in its fluidity of movement.

Upcoming Mile Zero Dance long weekend classes - SUNDAY + MONDAY!

⭐ VIVUS/movement with James Viveiros on October 11 from 12:45-2 PM.

VIVUS/movement is a method based on concepts from theatre improvisation, contemporary and somatic dance practices, voice, yoga and stretching techniques that encourage each participant to awaken their body through new sensations. We will move intuitively, in our own personal way, applying weight, speed, range of motion and flow of energy. This experience is an invitation to move without judgment, at one’s own pace, no approach being either right or wrong, allowing our sensations to guide us.

Sundays at MZD

It’s almost time for Mile Zero Dance’s Season Launch: SOFT Landings! Season Passes are now available! Get yours 🔗 in bio or visit MILEZERODANCE.COM

🎉Season message from MZD Artistic Director Gerry Morita 🎉

At a time when public life can feel shaped by division and scarcity, this season chooses generosity. SOFT Landings celebrates the extraordinary work emerging from our own community while welcoming artists and perspectives from beyond it. Together, these performances offer places to gather, reflect, and imagine other ways of being with one another.

Softening is not the same as yielding. It is an act of openness—making space to feel more deeply, to listen more carefully, and to become stronger through empathy, curiosity, and care.

As a curator, I consider the conditions that allow artists and audiences to meet. A soft landing is not only for the artist bringing work into the world; it is also for the audience arriving with their own experiences, questions, and hopes. Each work in this season invites us into a distinct world while asking us to remain open to what we might discover there.

These dance artists bring deeply personal, bold, and compelling points of view. Some works challenge, others comfort, many do both. Together they remind us that dance can hold complexity without demanding certainty.

Performances, classes, and our new website launching soon! ⭐️

UPCOMING CONTACT IMPROV WORKSHOP

Movement Alchemy
with Alireza Jambor
April 23, 24, 25
Friday 6-10 PM
Saturday and Sunday 10 AM-5 PM

In this workshop, we’ll study and practice a diverse movement vocabulary drawn from Soft Acrobatics, Floorwork, and Contact Improvisation.

Through a range of movement patterns, transitions, rolls, inversions, and partner-based skills, we’ll cultivate greater adaptability, responsiveness, and fluidity in our movement.

Integrate these ideas through the lens of improvisation, exploring how we can move more creatively and expressively in solo practice, with partners, and within group composition.

Some experience in movement, dance, or yoga is recommended, with progressions and variations offered to support and challenge all levels. Registration goes live this week!
