Hi instagram!
We’re one week away from the opening reception of Room is Carved, new iteration of work I made when I first moved to Edmonton, at Mile Zero Dance.

Reception is at 7 PM and in the spirit of not making any distinctions between creative disciplines (undisciplines?) useable parts is playing music at 8.

Rachel @dig_burry has been playing violin lately and it sounds awesome.

Come hang out and after we can go get a beer at Bent Stick across the street!

Mile Zero Dance (9931 78st NW)

$10

Room is Carved, is a series of woodcuts exploring Canada’s relationship to media and place. This is a project inspired by plywood, its abundance throughout the urban landscape, and its relationship with housing, development and resource extraction.

When I moved to Edmonton from Nova Scotia in 2021, I found myself perplexed by the disparity of how public and urban spaces are being used across so-called Canada. How on one hand, my friends and I are priced out of renting, yet spaces remain under-utilized and boarded up. All in the name of speculative real estate.

Room is Carved was made to consider what spaces say, and what materials we use to construct them, physically and otherwise. Carving Room will call into question the language perpetuated by our media, and what devices it uses to censor and guide public interests.

CHUNAR 🤍 — A story of motherhood, love, and letting go.

From the first breath to the pain of separation, *Chunar* captures the most selfless bond of all — a mother’s love. Through every movement and emotion, I tried to tell a story that lives in every heart.

Honoured to share this on stage at @milezerodance

We officially kicked off our creative studio sessions for Horses Won’t Follow last week with @nevanboyden and @michaellaho , and it’s been such a blast watching this new creation take shape!

If you’re in Edmonton this week, we’d love for you to join us for a FREE work-in-progress showing of some of the material we’ve been working on. Be among the first to experience the work, meet the artists behind it, and connect with the creators and choreographers for a conversation about the process.

Let’s share, connect, and talk about what it means to make new dance together. We’d love to see you there!
