A new project taking shape in Mar Vista.⁠
⁠
We’ve been working with Good Girl Books @goodgirlbooksla to create a ~2,000 SF women-owned bookstore and cultural space designed around literature, coffee and community.⁠
⁠
The space pairs a curated bookstore with a long central island, floor-to-ceiling modular shelving, and a warm material palette drawn from the Good Girl Books identity.⁠
⁠
The final piece is still to come: a dedicated coffeeshop and café operated by Dayglow Coffee, which will complete the space when it officially opens this fall.⁠

More to come as the project reaches completion.⁠

The kitchen and dining space of The Return Home is designed as a continuous threshold, where interior and exterior operate as one.⁠
⁠
Full-height sliding panels disappear, opening the space completely to the outdoor living and dining areas beyond. Overhead, a continuous wood ceiling carries through, reinforcing alignment and connection.⁠
⁠
At the edges, linear water features introduce movement and reflection, quietly framing a space defined by light, material, and flow.⁠

The architecture of The Return Home is defined by section as much as plan. A cantilevered volume above extends outward, housing the primary bath and a secondary bedroom while establishing a deep overhang that frames the outdoor living and dining areas below.⁠
⁠
At ground level, full-height sliding panels disappear into the walls, allowing the interior to open completely to the exterior terrace. The space operates less as inside versus outside, and more as a continuous field shaped by light, shade, and movement throughout the day.⁠
⁠
The overhang provides passive shading and protection, while the courtyard and pool edge draw the landscape into the core of the home. This layered approach creates a sequence of spaces - intimate, open, and in-between - rather than a single condition.⁠
⁠
Material rhythm and alignment carry through each zone, reinforcing continuity while allowing each space to perform differently. The result is an environment that is both expansive and controlled, designed to adapt to daily life while responding to climate and context.⁠

Welcome to The Return Home where the outdoor space is an extension of the living environment and part of the architecture itself. Large pocketed openings dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing the home to expand outward and respond to natural life in Southern California.⁠

The integrated pool, spa, cold plunge, and nearby dry sauna are designed for both lifestyle and resilience. Beyond recreation, the water system can serve as a supplemental resource for wildfire defense, supporting on-site protection strategies when it matters most. ⁠
⁠
Material continuity, controlled geometry, and a restrained palette reinforce a sense of calm and durability. Nothing is ornamental - every element is intentional, performative, and built to last.⁠
