Any conversation that ends with “shall we get ice cream?” is a brilliant one, and that’s exactly how an hour and a half spent with award-winning and two-time Olivier award-nominated director and dramaturg Milli Bhatia came to a close.

Milli and I talk about identity, loss and the beauty of subjectivity. I found our conversation about grief really moving, and - as ever - feel incredibly privileged to have been let into Milli’s wonderful way of seeing the world.

These are just snippets of our conversation. The full interview is available on my Substack! by @millibh

Baby is a one-woman play that is as intimate as it is epic. We can’t wait for audiences to see @therealpearlmackie bring writer Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti’s words to life on stage in two weeks’ time. This is not one to miss!

✨New artwork revealed for Baby!✨

Take a first look at @therealpearlmackie as Baby in this ambitious new one-woman play, co-produced by @cleanbrk and @brxhousetheatre.

📸 Shot by @christaholkastudio, the artwork puts Baby’s complicated, fierce and darkly funny protagonist centre stage. Makeup by @dandelgado_ .

Written by award-winning playwright Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti and directed by @millibh, Baby is a heartbreaking exploration of the lengths one woman will go to survive when the odds are stacked against her.

Through Baby’s story from childhood through to motherhood, Bhatti’s state of the nation play reveals deep-rooted inequalities and trauma faced by women in and outside of the criminal justice system.

A fearless and deeply human new play about what it takes to survive.
