Have you ever heard the saying 'less is more'? Well, that’s what I do so I can just "wake and shake" in the mornings. No product, no fuss—just me spending a little more time on WASHDAY so I don't have to spend much time styling it EVERY DAY.

At MilliCurls, I'm all about less stress and simple routines that make your life- and loving your hair- easy.

Try my top 3 tips when you do your next washngo and see if you can wake up carefree like me:
1️⃣ Use a product with hold (gel or foam) when styling. 2️⃣ Dry with heat (hooded dryer or blowdryer with diffuser).
3️⃣ Protect it at night while you sleep
(PRO TIP: For longer hair, put your hair in 1+ loose ponytails before putting on your bonnet/scarf to keep the hair organized)

In case you were wondering, yes, please use a shower cap to protect it from getting wet.

What if the only thing standing between you and wearing your natural curls more often is a great haircut and a little education?

My lovely first-time client came in for a curly cut and to learn how to better care for her curls.

After years of wearing her hair straight, she'd recently started dabbling in wearing her natural curls. She hoped a better shape and a little guidance would give her the confidence to wear them more often.

But what I loved most was WHY she wanted to embrace her curls. She wanted to encourage her daughter to embrace hers, too! 🥹❤️

I hear this from moms often, and I absolutely LOVE it! Little girls are watching, and sometimes the best way to teach them to love their natural beauty is to show them how we love our own.

But first, we needed to discuss one thing...

Would her hair still look good when she straightened her hair?

The short answer is YES! With proper technique, a curly cut can translate beautifully when straight. However, significant variations in curl patterns throughout the head can create some differences in how the cut falls when transitioning from curly to straight.

We talked through those possibilities, she understood, and we proceeded!

The result? 😍 A beautiful shape that complements her curls, plus a better understanding of how to care for it long after her appointment.

No one is exempt! 👀👀 If you have hair—or a scalp—it needs regular cleansing and care.

Let's teach our young Black men that more hair requires more care. If your son is growing out his curls, coils, or even locs, hair hygiene needs to be taught just like every other part of personal hygiene.

Teach them to shampoo the scalp, not just rub shampoo over the hair. Apply conditioner to the hair, detangle while the conditioner has plenty of slip, and follow with a leave-in and/or styler to help keep those curls moisturized and manageable between WEEKLY washes.

And when they go to the barber, don't just clean up the fade! If he's keeping length on top, those ends need attention too. Split, damaged ends need to be trimmed so the hair can remain healthy as it grows>>

And sir...if you are bald, you are NOT off the hook; everybody can get it. 😂 Your scalp is still skin. It still collects oil, sweat, dead skin and environmentalpollutants. Regular cleansing and occasional scalp exfoliation can help keep it clean, shiny and smooth for shaving—and a good moisturizing routine can help prevent that dry, flaky scalp.

Hair or no hair, take care of the scalp you're in.

A little color goes a long way and I was so pleased with the outcome of this simple color application!

My client had always colored her hair blonde, but the hair needed a break. She is still not sure if she wants to stay short or let it grow as long as it can get but we were definitely seeing improvements in the health of her hair and didn't want to back track. With that in mind we decided to stay in the permanent color family and not use any lightener. She loves coppers but I also thought a warm brown would compliment her as well. We met in the middle using @pravana Chromasilk hair color and the results were amazing. Her natural grays and remaining blonde tips acted as a great base that allowed the copper tones to shine while the warm mahoney provided a richness for the rest of her strands.
