Members of Coonoor Book Club got together and with @nimikurian patiently coaxing and cajoling us, thirteen members penned short stories and essays which have been compiled and published as a book - Tall Tales and Short Stories.
An Anthology from the Nilgiris.
I've contributed an essay - Box Seat and helped create the book cover using ChatGPT for the first.

There is much excitement as we plan the book launch on 16th June 2026, here in Coonoor.
If you find yourself in our charming town on this date, do come and join our celebrations.

The embroidered and lace trimmed photograph of my grandparents made it to the pages of The Grandparents Project.

I'm always looking for ways in which I can repurpose and reuse materials I come across.
For sometime now I reuse the thread employed to tack the fabric onto the card paper foundation one requires for English paper piecing (EPP).
So when the thread used for tacking comes off, I save it and use it to whip stitch the patches together. If the lengths are too small they go into the orts bottle to be strewn around the garden during nesting season.
Not to forget the cardboard is from muesli cartons. Have an assortment of squares and rectangles but I'm venturing into the world of hexies next.
This frugality and need to repurpose has become an obsession. Can't bear to throw anyhing away - be it packaging, magazines, scraps of fabric and spent teabags.
I have a whole ritual associated with saving the teabag paper when we travel and stay at hotels. I'm working on creating a botanical book for @areyoubookenough with these teabag papers. Are they considered paper?
Do you thrift and repurpose materials?

My letter to the Globe Skimmers (Dragonflies) for What I Meant to Tell You: An Anthology of Apologies and Gratitudes to the Natural World.
Written on a sun bleached sheet of paper and decorated with a couple of dragonflies made with pieces of tracing paper and a few strokes of a gel pen.
It's in the mail, the envelope is decorated with a multitude of 2 rupee stamps, the only stamps available in the post office.

I'm back after a wonderful break. Enjoyed a restful holiday, amazing food and inspiring surroundings. Travelled to destinations on my bucket list and revisited places after more than three decades.
Started work on the quilt for the India Quilt Festival 2026.
The theme is Wonderland.
The association of Wonderland with Alice in Wonderland is so strong. Every second example on the internet is related to Alice, the Mad Hatter's tea- party, the Cheshire cat and such like.
I'm going to try and represent going down a rabbit hole.

For August's Slow Circle Show Challenge hosted by @dragenkunst , four pieces of cloth were joined together and a circle traced onto the patchwork fabric. Various Buttonhole stithes were used.
This is also my interpretation of the full moon in August which is the Buck Moon.

Day 4 of #septembertextilelove - storytelling
My work is all about storytelling.
The book form is of great interest to me and I keep going back to creating artist's books to tell my stories.
Lately my stories are told via quilts. The second picture is a visual representation of my journal - The Journal Quilt.
My storytelling is done with embroidered text, applique, patchwork and embroidery.

The first three days of #SepTextileLove2026 being hosted by @seam_collective
Day 1 - Introduction - Hi, I'm Maya a textile designer and fiber artist, who loves origami and creating artist books and zines.
Day 2 - Hand or Machine - Hand always - Hand embroidery, sketching, origami, knitting, crochet......
I just learnt to make these cute triangular pouches. All handmade and hand stitched.
Day 3 - colour - currently exploring rust dyeing and eco printing. This is the beginnings of an art quilt
