POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This Time Capsule began with Maya Sara's (@millionlittlestitches/ @mayamatthew) work and a photograph of her ancestors. While contemplating the threads that connect generations, I found myself returning to a set of embroidered necklaces my maternal grandmother made for me during my adolescence. Those treasured objects found their way into the collage, transforming it into a fiber piece and weaving an unexpected dialogue between memory, ancestry and handwork.

Let me introduce Maya Sara in her own words:

"As a Fiber Artist nestled in the serene heights of the Nilgiri Mountains (India), my practice is shaped by a background in Fine Arts and Textile Design, as well as my experience teaching Basic Design and Textile courses.

Rooted in sustainability and inspired by the resourcefulness of traditional Indian craft, I transform garment off-cuts into fiber books, quilts, garments and accessories through hand embroidery, patchwork and appliqué. I also explore crochet, hand knitting and eco-dyeing.

Mending, repurposing and recycling guide both my work and daily life. The slow, meditative nature of these techniques allows me to create deeply personal pieces inspired by the wildlife, changing seasons and garden surrounding my mountain home. Though I live in relative isolation, I remain connected through social media, my book club and conversations with friends and family.'

Her art reflects sustainability, creativity and interconnectedness, inviting others to consider their relationship with the world around them.
