It had to be done! Since the new Strymon La Brea is completely analog, I wanted to hear what would happen if I ran some mics through it. I took it all a step further and did some comparisons with my Otari MTR-12 tape machine. Check out the full video on the MillSounds YouTube page!

"At first glance it might seem an unconventional choice to render something like this in pedal form, but it quickly becomes apparent why that was the best choice when you start to understand and appreciate how utilitarian they can be. The choice isn’t a gimmick; it’s an obvious necessity!"

"Two of Focusrite's top-of-the-line analog preamps plus six more very linear/clean, low-noise-floor preamps with top-tier conversion and expandability really shouldn’t be this affordable. I think Focusrite did a perfect job on this one!"

Matt Anderson (MillSound) is a recording and mix engineer known for exploring innovative analog workflows, immersive audio production, and creative studio integration.

In this clip from his Echo Fix EF-X3 review, he shares how FreqInOut FO1 fits into a much larger workflow — helping connect complex analog processing chains directly to the DAW without consuming valuable interface I/O.

What caught our attention wasn’t just the gear.

It was the workflow.

As studio setups become more advanced, the challenge is no longer finding great hardware — it’s integrating it efficiently.

For Matt, FreqInOut FO1 became part of that solution, helping manage analog routing while keeping the flexibility of a modern DAW environment.

“It’s great. It just works.”

That’s exactly what we’re aiming for.

Mid/Side on outboard — without buying another piece of gear.

When @Millsound was looking for a simple way to process M/S through his hardware chain, the goal wasn’t more equipment — it was smarter routing.

The FreqInOut FO1 let him flip his stereo path into Mid (Ch1) / Side (Ch2), shape center and width independently, and blend it back — all inside his existing setup.

Real workflow. Real problem. Clean solution.

Appreciate creators who push their setups further. 🙌

When recording drums, microphone choice isn’t about chasing a sound—it’s about control and intention.

For this session, we used the ADK T-FET Series to build a complete drum sound by choosing microphones based on how they respond to transients, manage high SPL, and shape space at the source.

All T-FET microphones share a common design philosophy:
 • Tri-Polar patterns to control bleed and focus
 • Up to an 16 dB pad for aggressive sources like kick, snare, and toms
 • High-pass filters to manage proximity and low-frequency buildup
 • A special soft-saturation circuit that subtly rounds transients and adds harmonic density without sounding compressed or distorted

Here’s how that played out on the kit:

Kick Drum — Frankfurt-49 TUsed for its ability to deliver weight and punch without exaggerated attack. The pad and saturation circuit allow the kick to hit hard while staying controlled and natural.

Snare Drum — Hamburg-67 TFast, focused, and articulate. The midrange stays honest, while the saturation circuit adds body to the transient—making the snare sit easily without aggressive EQ.

Floor Tom — Berlin-47 TBuilt to handle low-frequency energy with authority. Even under heavy hits, the 47 T remains composed and clear, with no loss of definition, and the classic “47” tone profile.

Overheads — Vienna-12 TSmooth, open, and balanced. Cymbals stay detailed without hype, and the stereo image feels natural and unforced.

Room — Munich-7 TThis is where the kit comes together. The Munich-7 T captures depth, energy, and adds cohesion and size without smearing.

The goal wasn’t to make the drums sound larger than life—but to capture what was actually happening in the room, with tools that give you flexibility, character, and musical control at the source.

Special thanks to our friend Matt Anderson at Mill Sounds Studio for the video: https://www.millsounds.com

Really excited to finally get to deep dive into my friend Peter's new company, TipTone Audio Devices! These three units are really unique, as they bridge the gap between guitar world and studio world. You can easily throw them on a pedal board and get some amazing results on electric guitar, but they're equally at home on inserts for mixing or during tracking sessions. The BC-4K is stereo to boot!

We had a few people asking questions about the “Hospital” video, so David and I sat down and talked about it for a bit. Give it a watch if you’re curious, link in bio (https://youtu.be/mnkcewW7ZxU?si=KC3hpzhorwq4RfAt). by @millsounds

My friend David was here recently and we shot a few videos. This first one, “Hospital” is a bit heavier and reflects on his time at Texas Children’s Hospital navigating health issues with his son.

We made some unique choices in order to capture the live performance. Aside from using the AEA N28 and recording straight to analog tape, we also took a soundbite of an ultrasound of his sons heartbeat, synced it to the tempo of the song, and played it through monitors in the room to keep it truly a one mic capture and have something for David to play along with. It’s a cool moment captured live! by @millsounds
