Christina Persika is a Midwest-born and raised artist, muralist and educator. Her studio, Persika Design Co. in Bay View, hosts workshops on creativity, art history, painting and more, with visiting artists teaching alongside Christina.
Christina designs and creates stationery, art prints and paper products, working primarily in watercolor, gouache, acrylic and digital media. Her products are inspired by her Midwestern roots, Scandinavian heritage (‘Persika’ is Swedish for peach!), and folk art.

➡️ continue

Christina’s art practice focuses on personal narrative, the home, spirituality, femininity, nature, joy and craft. You can find Christina’s murals on the sides of buildings, inside restaurants, schools, ice cream shops, offices, homes and basically, anywhere you can find a wall. Persika Design Co. (est. 2016) products are carried in shops across the country and frequently, at local markets. Christina’s paintings are available to collectors on her website.

➡️ continue

Christina teaches art and creativity workshops several times per year at her studio and local businesses around Milwaukee. Keep an eye out on social media and sign-up for Persika Design Co.’s email newsletter for opportunities to sign-up for a class!

October’s global theme is ALTITUDE. It was chosen by our Toowoomba chapter in Australia @cm_toowoomba, illustrated by Alex Hotchin @alex_hotchin, and is presented by @Adobe.

Our Toowoomba chapter had this to say about the significance of this month’s theme:

“Toowoomba quite literally sits above; perched on the edge of the Great Dividing Range. ‘Altitude’ speaks to elevated views, both geographically and creatively. It reflects the fresh perspective our community brings and the headspace we make for big ideas.”

The first Songwriting Club powered by @milwaukee_cm is coming up this Thursday, October 1st 4:00-5:00pm at @thelocal_makery !

Each session will be structured around experimenting with a different songwriting technique. For this first session, we'll start with Jump Writing, a lyric writing technique centered on writing to prompts, with new prompts introduced at varying intervals. We'll then enjoy focused lyric writing work and share-out (if desired), all within an awesome community.

Bring your creative self, your songwriting notebook, and a writing utensil. This will all be going down in the cozy and inspiring @thelocal_makery wine bar, which is open for lingering post-club.

To register, create your Creative Morning account and grab your spot here: https://creativemornings.com/talks/songwriting-club-89682002-7111-4f97-bb79-ad1c63db1cde (link in bio). taken in The Local Makery by @milwaukee_cm

What happens to storytelling when the tools for creating, editing, publishing and even imagining stories are changing faster than we can keep up?

That was the current running through our September gathering at Hubbard Park Lodge, where four of Milwaukee’s sharpest storytellers joined us for a conversation about creativity in the age of AI.

•

✒️ Enjoy these incredibly cool human-created illustrations by @samhansonillo + more BTS of our panel :) THANK YOU, SAM!! 😍

#cmcurrent #paneldiscussion #milwaukee #illustration #ai

Matt Wild (Milwaukee Record), Lainey Seyler (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel), James Groh (WTMJ 4) and Carole Nicksin (Milwaukee Magazine) come to storytelling from different corners of Milwaukee’s creative and media landscape. Together, they offered something more interesting than a simple debate about whether AI is “good” or “bad.” They invited us to think more deeply about what happens to our work and our passion for the work, when the tools change.

We talked about the practical realities: policies and process, idea generation, intellectual property, sourcing and the increasingly complicated relationship between speed and substance. But beneath those questions was a more fundamental one:

What makes a story worth telling—and what makes it worth trusting?

The conversation kept coming back to the value of human perspective. AI may help organize information, accelerate certain tasks or move an idea from point A to point B. But it cannot replace the lived experience, curiosity, judgment and point of view that shape how a person sees the world.

For storytellers, that distinction matters. And so does the experience.

Carole brought perspective to the value of human-generated work in a landscape increasingly saturated with content.

Matt reminded us of the joy and the deeply human process of creating, writing and publishing.

James challenged us to consider the difference between organizing information and actually having a perspective on a story that only humans who embody empathy can have.

And Lainey spoke to the responsibility of protecting sources and the trust that makes journalism possible.
