WORKSHOP SEASON 2026 | Color Experiments with Fungi

This immersive workshop, led by design studio Aléa Work, explored color as a living, evolving process through fungi. Participants engaged in hands-on experimentation, dyeing with foraged mushrooms and natural pigments, while also experimenting with mycelium to degrade and transform color in existing textiles. Participants moved between individual investigations and collective experiments, testing pigments, growing mycelium on textiles, and documenting color transformations. Challenging the common perception of mycelium as monochrome, the workshop revealed an underexplored fungal spectrum in which color emerged through interaction, time, and material agency.

For the past year, we have been exploring mycelium’s capacity to transform and degrade certain dyes.

Playing with subtractive processes of making, patterns emerge through the traces of growth in ways beyond what we could imagine or plan.

This project is supported with deadstock fabrics from @kupptextiles and with research support from @prohelvetia

A selection of these pieces is currently on view this weekend at @anticipation.festival at @gaitelyrique as part of the festival’s exhibition programme.

During the MFA Fashion and the Arts Sustainability Seminar at Parsons Paris, led by Miriam Josi (@mimivert @alea_work), students took part in a hands-on workshop exploring the intersection of mycelium and textiles.

Through research and experimentation, they developed speculative industry applications. Combining scientific inquiry, creative exploration, and practical innovation they imagined how living materials can redefine the design process. taken in Parsons Paris by @mimivert
