On my way to catch the train downtown last weekend, I caught a glimpse of a lobby’s beautiful tiles through the wooden doors. I tried to snap a quick photo from the outside, and a sweet stranger on their way in invited me inside for a closer look and gave me a tour of this stunning lobby by Emery Roth.

Collection Time Capsule ⏳📦

I turned 29 about three months ago. I wanted to begin the final year of my 20s with something a little special — something that would allow my friends and me to collectively create a physical artifact that captures our relationship with the current time, something we can return to with fondness years from now.

I asked my friends to bring artifacts that moves them, and together we built a time capsule to be opened in ten years, when I turn 39.

The capsule is filled with tenderness: handwritten letters and recipes, original illustrated zines, a printed map of the Bangkok transit system, Chinese calligraphy, a chess scoresheet, a t-shirt worn on a 100th dive, a ceramic love letter, and more.

With how quickly the world has been changing, I’ve felt a persistent urge to capture moments into something tangible. It comes from both a love of physical objects and a fear of letting time pass unnoticed.

So grateful for my friends, and for the parts of ourselves we choose to share with one another 🫶 taken in Brooklyn, New York by @mindapi
